'Old style' ecu tuning with additional electronics unit wired to the ECU and sensor harness still does work though. It's just very few suppliers left providing those as everybody has been jumping on the train speeding into the brave new digital world.

Tuning through a diesel through add on devices is not true tuning in that you are not optimizing fuel maps for efficient operation, you are simply tricking the motor into 'overfueling' under load. This is done through methods such as increasing fuel pressure at the injectors by reducing the pressure value provided by the sensor so that more fuel is injected during an injection cycle than the motor ECU has called for, or falsifying the signal from the motor temp sensor so that the ecu goes back to cold start mode, etc. These are the cars you see with black back-ends from the soot...

The only way to truly 'tune' a diesel is to alter the maps in the ECU (in theory, you could provide a complete 2nd ECU with alternative maps, but I have never seen this done. And it would be very expensive...)

Had a look at the bluespark packs there. I’ve had two in the past - both worked ok, but caused limp mode when turned up too high.

I’m confused at the D300 box offering 364bhp. I thought the engines were identical, just detuned. Is this not the case?

So what happens when there is a software update or it goes into LR for servicing. Does the Map get wiped? Eiger Grey MY23 D250 SE with bits. Known as Noddy.

It’s your choice to have a software update and you can ask for it not to be updated however it should not change the map unless the service engineer specifically chooses to alter it which is unlikely I had activations done before and service did not make any difference

D300 to D350
hi guys im a new member on here.
after buying a new urban 110 D300 back in april thinking it was the most powerfull diesel defender avaiable i have since found out that they make a D350.
no one seems to offer a power upgrade (remap) for the D300.
i dont really want a tunning module because they just dont deliver the stated power output.

any information or advice greatly appreciated

It’s very rare for them to routinely change fuel mapping files for sold vehicles, as they’d have to go to the expense and effort of retrospectively test the changes against previous versions of engine parts/ancillaries. So, typically the only risk you have of this happening is if you had to have some engine/ecu work done.

In the scenario that it did get wiped, you go back to who originally did the map file replacement and pay a labour charge to put the map file back in there.

Do you find the D300 underpowered?

D300 is plenty. However it depends on your expectation and what you were driving before the defender.
The engine is a powerhouse, no matter the power!
Torque is limited by the gearbox to 700nm, 675nm the d300. You will not notice the difference.
You will notice the difference standstill acceleration and acceleration over 100 miles per hour.
My d250 is now d300 and is adequate to all the situations. 50 horses more they are always welcome Smile

My D250 has plenty of reserve, even when towing the caravan.

However, l would happily upgrade the software to 300bhp if it didn't invalidate the warranty. But sadly it would.
As the same engine and transmission is supplied in some versions at 350bhp it would be fine with the extra 50bhp. l would only be prepared to do it with genuine Land Rover software though. After bad experiences with remaps in the past.
There is at least one company claiming to use genuine Land Rover software.
