No glow plug relay
Hi guys

I've been wiring in an additional fusebox in my td5 defender. Positioned under the drivers seat. And while at it, I've been learning some of the land rover electrics.

I came across this un-used plug and looked into the wiring diagrams to find it was the glowplug relay plug.

Any ideas why this would have been removed or not fitted? I'm guessing I've had no power to the glow plugs for some time?

Last year plugs were removed to test them and they were fine.

Is it a special type of relay?

Thanks and merry Christmas all

Worth trying a relay in there. Think the part number is YWB500220

Not certain whether the same on a TD5 but for TDCi also check fuse 38.

Does make you wonder who removed it though and more importantly why? > 110 XS Double Cab

Thanks chaps will give it a go and see what happens.
I've still had the glow plug light ignite on the dash though?

I would test with a meter first, before just poking a relay in.

How did you test them without a relay ?

Check you’ve got 12V to relay carrier, check the resistance on the wire out to the blow plugs isn’t a short direct to earth. Check that the glows plugs aren’t already getting 12v from some other source or you've miss diagnosed the relay carrier.

You could disconnect the wire to the glow plugs and put a test bulb into the system instead.

Thanks very much chaps. Hope you had a good Christmas.

I tested the glow plugs with jump leads on the bench, they are perfect.

I'll do some multimeter testing I think, instead of just chucking a relay in. Tis strange no relay I think
