Hi Sam,
Easiest way is to start checking the basics. Drop test battery to check it's not on it's way out. Lots of videos on youtube on how to do this. Then check the earth connections from battery and starter. Poor earth will often show up exactly as you describe. Good luck |

A common problem with the TDCi is that the relays under the O/S front develop loose contacts. A very easy check is to make sure that these a really tight in their sockets. If either the main or starter relay has a poor connection the vehicle won't start.
If any are loose, you can introduce a slight bend in the spade tag on the relay to tighten the connection. |

Check the feed going to the starter. Mine had split, but was still connected. Sometimes enough voltage would go through to get it started, other times it wouldn't. I tore my hair out trying different things with immobiliser etc.

Many thanks for all of your replies
I had a check of the battery and all the relays and all seemed fine with those, a quick look of the wiring/earths and I couldn’t see anything obvious there so bit the bullet and went for a new genuine Bosch starter motor. Got it fitted today and starts right up first time! Valuable lesson learnt - buy cheap, buy twice Thanks for the help! |
