Yes but that's surely just an indication of how bloated the original credit offering is? If the discount only bites into the credit process and doesn't touch the OTR price then it's possibley less. Taking a credit deal and then paying off in full is supposed to yield benefits of both; but I've never done that or seen actuals to convince me. |

The key to this whole thing is making the dealer believe you are considering finance so they think you might finance. Thus allowing a bit more fat on the deal with the knowledge you will make it up in the finance office. Once you have your contract in paper and deal with the bean counters, then you can basically pay cash.

Some take a pcp out, then pay it off straight away. Not sure if it actually works. 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV

With Skoda - and others there was a large deposit contribution if you took out PCP - this was in addition to any discount you negotiated.. Skoda also did 2 years cheap service plan also as part of the PCP Deal.
If you cancelled PCP and paid off the finance within 28 days (actually you have 14 days longer after you cancel to pay) you keep all the deposit allowance and service plan. Its the same with Audi... and many others... So it does work.... |

I didn’t realise that with Skoda until after I picked mine up, no idea if the same for pre-reg vs new through. It was just after the tentative release of lockdown #1, getting hold of the salesman (or even getting a phone link into the Skoda dealer) was a complete nightmare and didn’t want to complicate matters. Turns out that seems to be a normal thing, communication skills are not one of their strengths..

Unless your paying CASH - normally its cheaper to buy new than Pre Reg - as the finance interest rates and PCP Deposit allowances are much higher.
But it changes with Manufacturer and Campaign... So not always cut and dried.. |

I'm noticing second hand cars getting snapped up quite regularly when I phone. Some very high asks even from non jlr dealers and private sale.
Seems the pent up demmand from COVID is being released a bit this spring. One dealer told me he sold 69 cars during a spring sales event which is highest he can remember. |

We seem to go through a cycle.
Stage 1 - someone sees 4 in a car park and says they are selling well. Stage 2 - official registration figures are published showing low figures. Stage 3 - response is "it's a world wide pandemic - what do you expect". Stage 4 - someone visits a dealer who says they are doing really well. Stage 5 - JLR release sales figures and things go quiet for a while. Rinse and repeat. |

Wel if supply is low due to COVID and low production, both can be right to an extent.

There was a new S on AT in green with white roof that was 10% off MY21 list priced, £44k or £45k ISTR. I think it was Taunton dealership. Unfortunately I did happen to mention this to SWMBO and didn’t even get “that’ll be nice for someone, dear” from SWMBO, just that look.

Definitely works. But they don’t like it when you do it regularly. I went through a spate of buying Audi’s for a while, always with the finance offer and then paid off in first month. On car four, they refused to give me the incentive. Told me I could have the finance but I no longer qualified for finance incentives. The business manager wouldn’t tell me why, but later on the salesman told me he’d seen it happen to others as well, always to people who change their cars regularly and who always finance and then clear. Makes sense really I guess. They make the money back from the interest so I was just costing them more. Never bought an Audi since |

The dealer factor in their kickback for selling the finance into your deal.
If you settle early - the dealer gets less of a kick back.. I know talking with the business manager at Skoda he told me they get penalised for people ending finance within 6 months. Then there is also the FSA thing where they must ensure the product they sell you is the correct product.. high numbers of people ending early says it was not the right product. But suspect the dealer wants his full kickback and the finance companies want their interest to recover the incentives is the main reason. |
