Discounts?
I can't see a thread on here about discounts, which suprises me! Has anyone managed to get much off their new Defender?

I didn't manage a penny. All CarWow offers come back with a grand total of £0. Drive The Deal suggested a saving of about 5% but it was quite a confusing site and I wasn't sure I would be getting the exact options I wanted.

There aren't even any deposit contributions on PCP that I can find.

I see there's already several on the second-hand market, but the prices seem to have held very well.

Difficult to get a deal just now. I was offered £1500 of a brand new ‘X’ that the dealer had coming into stock, but it was a 2020 model, fully loaded and out of my budget by a long shot.

I got offered a rubbish part ex price too. Sold privately in the end. 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV

DtD is simple, it does depend on manufacturer, but you tend to get the same level of discount on options too. Basically once you want to go ahead, DtD put you in touch with the dealer and you deal directly with them, usually the business sales team as they manage the DtD account and give you what are essentially fleet discounts minus DtD commission, but you order as you would for any private buyer.

You can order off stock, or place a factory order and still get the same discounts, sometimes more off a stock car.

I think dealers still have their hands tied as far as direct discounts on the sticker price, i did negotiate on one with my local there are other things they can spin around the figures if you have say a newish LR to trade but other than that its difficult. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE

I got 4.9% no PX on new D300 HSE - using DTD price as a comparison at my local dealer.

I got some Carwow quotes a few weeks back, as they'd finally got the new Defender listed. Of the five offers I got, four were for the full list price. The other offered a 2% discount, but it was time limited.

I wonder if it really counts as an "offer" if there is no discount? You may as well go direct and save the dealer having to pay the Carwow fee.

Nice thing about NFU, when it comes, is that the discount is over and above what you can negotiate at the dealer level. With an ageing platform, no BEV and an excuse for a PHEV, I don’t think it will be long before we see chunky sized Discovery esq discounts on Defenders. 1951 80" S1 2.0

No BEV even on the horizon and, as you say, an excuse for a PHEV is having a lot of bearing on whether I keep or sell my 1996 TDi300 or when the L663 warranty runs out whether I replace it with a Citroen Ami, Mini E or similar small BEV as my shopping car. I had intended to make the L663 my last ever new car purchase, to see me to the end of my motoring days and reduce to just one very competent car but it’s looking more like the 110 will have to go at the end of the warranty to make way for a BEV but it won’t be an LR as LR appears not to be interested in selling those. I would consider a PHEV but I want one that has 50miles all year round real world range not something that claims a range that there is no way it will ever achieve. That would mean 90% of my driving could be electric justifying having the huge weight penalty of having two power trains. I am very much in the same camp. Having owned 2 Gen 1 Nissan Leaf and 2 x Gen 2. We realised 50-100miles range was all we needed. I watch with interest at the ever increasing range people are waiting for. We will end up with most of the population carting a battery around that is 90% more than they will ever use. It's like fitting a 200litre tank to a Defender and only ever needing to fill it to 50litres.

But to see the ipace and then view the rest of the JLR stable, it pains me to say they are woefully behind the curve to retain their customer base let alone grow a sustainable business with EV tech. To release a platform for the Defender after such a long wait and miss this opportunity is appauling. I believe the new FFRR is the same too. 1951 80" S1 2.0

TBH even 40 miles guaranteed year around range would suit me as since June I have only made 4 trips in excess of that, the rest are 15 miles into town and 15 miles back and I would have no problem recharging at my destination if I changed supermarkets to the one next door to a charging station (and it’s free to use as well!) and stopped using Sainsbury which is closer to home too. Now that I’m fully retired I will not be driving the length of the UK and several of my neighbours who are running early Renault Zoe’s with up to 50 miles range but with slow charging seem to cope fine with them. I helps that where I live we have a council that is going all out to provide more and more free chargers even out in remote villages, that most supplied so far haven’t been rapid chargers has put a few people off but even the slow chargers are good for a top up. There is a new mega charge station under construction just off the M9 at J10 (right below Stirling Castle) that will have superchargers as well as rapid chargers and a shopping arcade. My thoughts are similar but different to you... buy this Defender - Diesel so that we have a car that can (hopefully) last 20 years or so - till I am no longer needing it - use it for the longer runs and then change the other 2 cars to 1 smaller BEV - in 3 or 4 years time if there is no sign of HFC vehicles - which has to be a better way than BEV - unless they can sort out range and life of the battery - otherwise they become a 6 year disposable item - as replacement batteries will cost more than the car value.
