Thinking of an ICE upgrade, looked at the Becker but not impressed with UK sales / Websites
Has anyone fitted one of these ? Any comments / Feedback ? http://www.parrotshopping.com/uk/p_parrot_item.aspx?i=217855 bp *UPDATE* I bought one of these units, it lasted about 2 years then failed during an update. Last edited by bpman on 8th Jun 2013 8:00am. Edited 1 time in total |

I have put one of these http://www.kenwood-electronics.co.uk/produ...KDC-BT61U/ in and very happy with it;
Bluetooth handsfree and audio streaming iPod / iPhone control & charging FM/LW/MW Only thing it's lacking is DAB but I could only find one cheap Chinese crap that had Bluetooth & DAB. |

Me! I fitted a Parrot Asteroid a couple of weeks ago! http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic6967.h...t+asteroid It was phone functuionality and better sound quality I was predominantly after! As the Asteroid is only about half the depth of a standard head unit I slipped in an Alpine amplifier behind mounting it to the securing/locating lug plate for the original head unit! Added a subwoofer and amplifier and the sound and phone functionality for me is perfect. 3G applications for it at present are lacking but developers are on the case. I used a company called Audio In Motion for all advice and purchases and they were interested in the installation as I was the first purchaser of the Parrot Asteroid only a day after they got the demo! Even they were impressed! The 'voice recognition' for artists music and phone connectivity/dialling are very good too, so much so that I changed the other half's name to Ghostbusters just so that I could say it after the female voice asks "Who d'you want to call?" In my opinion for the money you get a decent head unit, uncluttered and very modern looking, will play music with good quality and an inbuilt graphic equaliser with a good range of frequency adjust and an audio effects menu that allows you to get the best with what you've got! http://www.audioinmotion.co.uk/ Konabikes got an impressive piece of kit but I could not have justified the extra £200 over the Parrot price. Hope this helps. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

Only disadvantage I can see is their display unit is self-contained and has come from Parrot as such. It is only connected to a single in-built speaker within the display unit. It is good to 'have a play with' and see it's functionality. 'PM' sent. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Afterthought:........
Alot of the other units Alpine especially will not guarantee phone compatability unless it's an Iphone as they are built for Iphone. Later Alpine units will not guarantee anything less than Iphone 4. With several different types of phone in my household I wanted phone compatability and the Parrot Asteroid fitted the bill as the list for mobile phone compatability was extensive. Either way if possible try before you buy then you won't be disappointed. Unless you have an Iphone 4 of course! If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Good for me, the sound is much better than the standard unit, radio is slightly better, rattles a bit on a rough road, but doesn't rattle when out in the vertical position. Only small criticism is the radio goes off when you change screens say to maps. Other than that it's perfect for me. Handsfree works fine no issues with making a call what ever speed you are doing, you can of course dial handsfree using the voice command as well. You don't need an adapter either for the Puma. Most replacement head units don't need adaptors nowadays as DIN units appear to be the 'norm' in most cases and the longest part of the entire process can be getting the OEM unit out/released from the dash, even with the correct tools! Alpine however do use their own style of connectors and either an adaptor or cutting and splicing may be required! Even fitting another autonamous hands-free kit to the Mini all that was required was a 'Quadlock' adaptor (specific to the vehicle, in my case BMW) at about £12 and everything was still just 'plug and play!'
