I use a Pioneer stereo in my Defender, can't remember what model its a good few years old, works with HTC, Nokia iPhone, SE, etc no problem. External microphone so no issues with noise, even in the TDi I believe the Bluetooth is a built in Parrot module as well. Most Pioneer units have a USB socket on the front, as well as AUX and some have dedicated iPod/iPhone cables. Depends on what you buy, a decent bluetooth one is about £150 I think, or at least last time I checked at work Ben

Bye-bye Parrot, it will be on flea-bay next week if anyone wants one. Just ordered an Oxygen o-car. Dealer advised they should fix the Radio App criticism that Willy mentioned in the next update. You can also use DAB apps such as TuneIn radio. Plus there is video out, and if Griffin get round to releasing Cartrip ODB adapter.........

Jav, do you know if the update is via an iPhone app update, or is it an update to the unit itself? Apologies, I'm not too technically minded when it comes to phones/ICE/etc Mark

Units that have 3G capability can be updated directly from a dongle or the phone itself in lieu of a dongle. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!! Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!! |

Surprised you kept your RKi 8400 it for so long....They were notoriously irksome and problematic when they came out! Was yours ok apart from the niggles highlighted in your previous post? For example.... http://forum.parrot.com/english/viewtopic.php?id=8978 I did quite alot of research before committing to my Asteroid! Especially as the historical feedback on the RKi 8400 wasn't particularly good! As mentioned try before buying is the way to go if possible to form your own unbiased opinion! I'm not sure but I expect it will be from App Store on the iPhone. If I am understanding how this thing works it looks like all you can control is the on/off and volume/mute on the front panel. All other controls are via the iPhone touch screen Apps. Willy might advise if I'm wrong. Paul Pondering a New 90 Commercial 2020 Evoque * 2014 110 SW JE Stage 2. *2010 110 Utility. I have been quite pleased with it but have given up on Parrot providing any software updates to fix the niggles. I suspect all their resources are going into Asteriod development and the 8400 has been forgotten which is shame. Most annoying problem for me was interference from the Phone when listening to the radio. If you don't download emails on the go its not a problem but I get plenty during the day and it constantly bleeps all over the radio if you are charging the phone. |

The only other problem I can think of......what about when the wife 'borrows' my Defender? She won't be able to listen to any music etc unless she gets herself an iphone aswell. Mark

The oxygen unit looks fine but what happens when you get an iphone5? Will it still fit?

Fitted Oxygen o-car yesterday. Easy to install, just make sure the red and yellow +ve feeds are correct.
Setup the radio presets and off for a test run...... it works. After first tests I am very impressed. Tunein Radio App and Phone conversations worked great as well. Got to listen to the Cricket in stereo via 3G This is an Apple only solution but as long as Apple don't change the dock connector I would expect the iphone 4GS to work when it is released at the end of August. So, first impressions are very good. Off to Wales for the summer so will post an update after a bit more use. |
