United Kingdom 2004 Defender 90 Td5 CSW Santorini Black
3” Td5 Exhaust
Just a quick one, does anyone know of a business/individual that can make me a 3” exhaust system without needing the vehicle there? My 90 is off being rebuilt and it’d be ideal just to order in an exhaust to fit whilst everything gets bolted to the new chassis.
Cheers! Charlie

You know that a full 3inch is fookin loud in the TD5.

A company called Demand i believe do a valve to lower the noise when you need it, ie not to pee off the neighbours.

https://demandengineering.co.uk/

Predator Styling in Wellington, nr Taughton built mine as a 2inch from the turbo to a cherry bomb behind the rear axle then a 3inch end pipe. He advised against a full 3inch as there was no performance gain

Sounds fantastic but still like a V1 at full chat.

Hope that helps

Yes I know it’ll be offensively loud to anyone in or outside Laughing I’m having the 90 soundproofed, but noise levels don’t bother me too much.

I’ve got a VNT to go on, hence the change from 2.5” up to 3”.

I’d seen Demand’s valved system, which could be quite a good option just for motorway cruising as that’s when it could get annoying. Charlie

That's cool

The TD5 is the best sounding Defender

PS, meant to say that mine is a 2.5 to cherry bomb then the 3inch end pipe

I made my own 3 inch system for my Td5 90. It sounded spectacular but was far too loud for longer distances. I didn't actually find the drone to be the problem but the turbo whistle was deafening. I put a single 20 inch straight through silencer in mine (in approximately the same position as the standard system main silencer) and it's perfect. Thumbs Up

I saw your videos when you did it at the time, sounded awesome!

I hadn’t considered the turbo noise really. So that’s good to know. Hopefully I can have a system made that will be easy to chop and change sections if it ends up being just that bit too loud. Charlie

I have a Griffin 3" system on my 300Tdi. Fitted really well, and looks the part. I assume it's also doing its bit to help the engine breathe a bit better.

But I only really posted to say that I was surprised by the noise comment - I haven't found mine noisy at all. Single silencer only, but it just whispers! Donald

I also ran a Griffin 3inch on the 110 td5. It wasn't that much noisier than standard. Nice rumble at tick over. Had a bit of resonance at about 70mph on the motorway but after I swapped to disco gearing that moved up to 80+ so not really a problem.
