Reverse camera locations
Having just purchased the JVC radio with reversing camera support, and also a reverse camera now is time to mount the camera,

After ideas.

Current ones are;
Mounted onto the number plate light - I have a spacer between the body and the LED unit
Mounted central to the towbar area
Inside rear door
Externally by the rear screen wash

Any I have missed ? General thoughts? 1999 Defender TD5 110

Mine is in the crossmember. In the recess on the right hand side. Keeps it out of harms way, you can’t see it’s there without looking for it, and it gives a good rear view.

Haven’t got a picture to hand but I removed the rear screen washer then used the hole for the camera wiring, with a grommet for the wiring.

The camera is mounted above the hole, so it is central, I used 3m Very High Bond tape (Amazon) to hold the camera bracket.

I then relocated the screen wash off to one side.

I carry my bike on a carrier and so I wanted It mounted high up so I could see above them.

Hope that helps, I guess the question is not so much the mounting but what is the primary thing that you need to see, ie my reason or some use the camera to line up the tow bar.

Good luck.

I don't have the hole in the rear xmember due to have a black sheep replacement one. I do have the two holes either side of the tow bar mounts (used for the jack?)

My main one is to be able to see the Harvey Frost trailer when backing it into the drive. I have ordered a 2nd wifi camera that I will mount on the rear of the HF trailer so I can see the cars I am towing.

What the HF looked like.

Mine was fitted above the back window above the water jet. Gives me a good view behind although I cant see the tow ball because of the spare wheel. I also have parking sensors on my rear NAS step. Both in conjunction work well for me as I often park my 110 in small street spaces.

Mine's mounted on the rear work light bracket, the previous one was taped to the rear washer. --

Mine was below the numberplate light but moved it to above the washer, nice and central and less interference from any light sources

I’ve got the Optimill one in the number plate light, not the best view but it picks up small children, bollards and other people’s bonnets.

I know you already have the camera but I always thought this was a tidy solution from Optimill https://www.optimill-uk.com/number-plate-light-with-camera.html

I thought that that sort of thing was frowned upon! Rolling with laughter

I have an Optimill number plate light camera, also one on the back of the rack looking downwards, and one on the offside bumperette.

This is the one I have ordered. - not arrived yet.

The plan is have a switcher so i can go between two cameras. Mount the camera on the rear of the trailer and take power from the rear of the trailer -either via lighting circuit or i have additional wiring fed from an anderson socket that runs the rear work lights. 1999 Defender TD5 110

This was the other wired camera I bought
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Waterproof-170-...2749.l2649

It does have reverse lines that show up but a quick test and seems OK picture wise. I need to hook up the trailer so i can work out the best position for the camera. 1999 Defender TD5 110

Fitted the camera by mounting it off the rear door high level brake light cover. It took a bit of time playing with locations. Time will tell. 1999 Defender TD5 110
