Have you checked the wiring loom around the engine? It's common for it to wear around the red lifting eye and can also wear through on other random parts. As your battery is flat it is potentially shorting somewhere but then you'd expect that to blow a fuse.
You can test that yourself with a multimeter. To answer your question, yes it could if for example the wiring going to the injectors was intermittent/shorted, although I'd expect it to throw a DTC. Now: 2010 2.4 TDCi 110 Utility Wagon Then: 2004 2.5 TD5 90 Hard Top (X-Tech Edition) |

Well good news yesterday from the Indy.
He had been a bit stumped by my description of the problem the symptoms didn't fit with anything other than a serious problems with the engine internals. Been a Land rover mechanic all his working left he knew as soon as he started it what the problem was, removed the plastic cover from the top of the engine and with it running could see the front two injectors bouncing even though the pipe wire was sold with engine switched off the engine was providing enough force to push the up. All four injectors were removed and had the seats re cut and refitted with seals and washers. Its still a bit confusing as to why at 8.00 am the engine sounded okay but eight hours later it sounded line an old dump truck. So Ozzie was was correct with his diagnosis. Don't make old people mad. We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to us off. Richard |

Excellent news, glad it was straightforward and relatively minor.

Glad you got it sorted and nothing too major!
The injector bolt holding two injectors in isn't that tight in reality and has to be specifically tourqued not to damage the head which is quite soft! So, once it loosens even a tiny bit the effect of the force alternately pushing on each injector will loosen it quite quickly. Then you have the effect of the engine cooling down which will loosen the already loose bolt some more. They are also stretch bolts so once loose will never retighten properly and should be replaced Now: 2010 2.4 TDCi 110 Utility Wagon Then: 2004 2.5 TD5 90 Hard Top (X-Tech Edition) |
