It says in the new:
"Expanding the number of bundled option packs, Defender can now be specified with a Blind Spot Assist Pack, and a choice of a Family Pack or Family Pack Plus. The Family Pack adds third-row seating with three-zone climate with rear cooler and Cabin Air Ionisation, while the Family Pack Plus brings heated third row seats." But it's not available on web site yet. I will probably cancel/modify the order I place for 4cylinder D200 to get a new D200 6 cylinder. Also can now add Premium LEDs. |

I think this engine lineup is much better. Having that 6cyl puts it right there to tempt the d3/4 owners who tow a lot. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE

The ZA website has not been updated yet, I wonder if we will only get the new engines for 2022... --

Just an observation -
Looking at the revised 'build your own' on the LR website - The new 110 6 cyl engines (D200,D250 & D300) they can only be spec'd as 5 or 6 seat. No 7 seat option - I am guessing this is because the underfloor space in the boot is taken up by the battery pack. So there is no room to fold the 6th & 7th seat down in to. Not needing or wanting 6 or 7 seats that under floor storage was looking useful. I guess this is one of the trade off's - 6cyl engine with battery assistance - no 7 seat option & no underfloor storage? |

Giles I have a P400 6 cylinder MHEV in Petrol with 5+2, in a MY20.5 due imminent delivery, possibly
their is a lag in the configurator options for the MY21 As mentioned above you may need to ask the dealer yet another pommie bar steward down under MY20 110 P400 SE Defender MY10 3.0 RR Sport Last edited by zilch on 11th Sep 2020 9:46pm. Edited 1 time in total |

I'm not sure if that's the case as P300 (4 cylinders) also available only in 5 and 6 seat options. According to the news release on LR website there is/going to be co-called Family Packs which offers 5+2 option as well 3 zone climate control and a couple of other extras. I had a word with my local dealer and he sounded quite confident that the Family pack will be soon available in configurator with the delivery beginning March 21. Also if you go to Technical Specifications all the specs are provided for both 5 and 5+2 versions. So I hope this is just a delay/lag in the configurator. |

With the 5+2 LR always mandated 3 zone, ionisation and air quality, put the cost up significantly

That’s pretty good seeing as many PHEVs cannot tow anything. It seems that during development most manufacturers didn’t homolate their PHEVs for towing. My Mini Countryman PHEV couldn’t even have a tow hitch fitted because if the rear electric motor - the battery was under the rear bench seat. There are Lots of unhappy Countryman PHEV owners out there because it is also difficult to carry bikes unless you put them on the roof, tailgate mounting breaks the rear spoiler...... Is it just because of the extra weight of batteries and electric motor then?

No, the makers didn’t think people with PHEV’s and EV’s would want to tow............. or mount bike racks so just didn’t bother to homologate the vehicles. Apparrantly (as found out by some members of the Mini forums) if you fit a tow bar to a car not homolgated to have one invalidates your insurance. Right but that's not the case with this - it does have a towing capacity but it's down 500kg.
That's a rather significant reduction. As an example my trailer, in loose cargo configuration, weights in at 1,132kg, which gives me a load capacity 2,368kg, or a clear 2 tonnes to allow margin for error and less than optimum loading. I wouldn't be able to do this in a new model. Would a new Defender actually be rated to tow another Defender? |

The battery weight will be very significant in reducing the towing weight - my 2019MY Mini’s HV battery added 160kgs over a standard Mini Countryman, that was for a 7.2/hr battery So 200kg for the Defender PHEV battery wouldn’t seem to be unreasonable for the increased capacity that has over the Mini, don’t forget you don’t just have the extra battery weight to add, there’s the complex regenerative brake system weight and the weight of the electric motor needed for electric only motoring. I haven’t looked on the configurator to see what the various vehicle weights are but it might be worth comparing MHEV wi=eight to PHEV weight and their towing capacity to see if the additional electrification weight equals the reduction in towing capacity. Another reason for the reduction could be because the car still has to be able to tow in Electric only mode which will reduce the towing capacity as the electric motor isn’t that powerful, loads of torque but less power to pull things in EV only mode.
