Personally, I think the sh** will shortly hit the fan as Tata lose patience with the losses. It's a dead man walking as far as I can see and only a matter of time before the whole pack of cards tumbles. Whether anyone will pick up some of the pieces is debatable. Sooner or later the vanity of producing a wide product range of low volume, similarly positioned products in a crowded and competitive market will catch up with JLR. It could well be the next Saab, MG or LDV.
When I saw the post that mentioned the new Ford Bronco had already seen over 230,000 reservations, it put the whole JLR circus into perspective. |

"While Tata has previously insisted that Jaguar Land Rover is not for sale, it does continue to look for a strategic partner for its British subsidiary.
But according to market analysis, Tata Motors doesn't just need help for Jaguar Land Rover, but it needs Jaguar Land Rover itself, because the Indian conglomerate is said to be worth nothing without it." https://uk.motor1.com/news/422894/tata-worthless-without-jlr/ |

Not forgetting the technology transfer that's taken place, which must be worth almost as much as the dividends it's taken out of JLR.

Must be a crown of thorns then. Time will tell if I'm right or wrong. |

Cars registered for the first time by make and model, United Kingdom 2020 Q1.
The data is difficult to pull details from on the basis of in, out, so it's open to a degree of interpretation, especially on what are actually new Defenders; but i gave it an honest go. A total of 293 new Defenders. Click image to enlarge https://www.gov.uk/government/organisation...statistics |

11 Defender X? Something not right there unless they were press cars and no differentiation between 90 and 110, as we know that there a few 90’s out there testing, even in Q1 Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed! |

I wonder if any forces are running Range Rovers anymore? And if not when was the last one out of service? So actual global retail sales for the period 1st July to 30th September 2020:
Defender - 9,813. Grand Total sold to date = 12,195. In context for the FY2021 Q1 & Q2 period retail sales of other models were: Click image to enlarge Comparison of how the various Land Rover models sold against themselves in the same period: Click image to enlarge So Defender up one in the ranking from bottom place Q1, to 2nd bottom Q2 - managing to outsell the Discovery, but narrowly missing out on outselling the Range Rover. Click image to enlarge If you take the average monthly retail sales of the old Defender over the period FY2011 to FY 2016, it was 1,570 vehicles. If you take the average monthly retail sales of the new Defender over the 7 months it's been on sale, it was 1,742 vehicles. 172 vehicles more... Defender production was lost for 48 months, so at the old sales rate, that's 75,360 lost Defender sales. At the increased rate JLR are selling the new Defender - they'll have caught up the lost production in 36.5 years. It's definitely a slow burner. For those being told by the dealer that they are selling every one they can get - dealers have bought 20,025 vehicles in Fiscal year to date but only managed to retail 11,995. It also begs the big question of why there's two shifts at Nitra, as in the last quarter the wholesale figures for the D5 are truely woeful at 3,804. Last edited by Supacat on 22nd Oct 2020 8:42am. Something which is highlighted in the first image is just how few cars Jaguar sells
I know people on here have been saying that Jaguar is the elephant in the room for a while, but that is quite shocking. |

I had an XF as a loaner back in January, it was ok but didn’t feel like a Jag should, certainly not a car I’d pay good money for.

Seeing as Q2 we were mostly in some form of lock down LR sales held up pretty well seeing as cars were basically sold online. I wonder how many of the sales were sales to dealers as opposed to sales to the public ie cars registered in the period. Interesting that in Q2 RRE and Disco Sport numbers were so high because they were in run out then on the announcement of the face lifted modes.
