Don't like the bonnet. Don't like the rear lights. You can only hope the interior makes up for it, otherwise it will go the same way as the "Iveco-Defender".
Personally I wouldn't go for it anyways. If I want the same car, there is no need to go for the Grenadier. I can keep this one. If I want something more modern, the new Defender is up to date. One other thing. How many parts of the Grenadier are of the shelf parts from other brands? I ask because if it fails to succeed it will end up as a very heavy piece of paper weight if you can't get hold of them. Just a thought... |

Not keen personally, too G wagon for me in styling plus as mentioned above regards to parts etc, no doubt it will also be around 50k.
Happy to stick with the old Defender thanks  |

Ooh! I like this! The old Defender isn't going anywhere, that's a keeper for all it's heritage and the jazz...
Wait till the guys that makes (faux-Defender/G-wagen) parts for the Suzuki Jimny have a go at this. I think it'll look ace!  |

I'm not a fan of the front end or the rear lights but love everything else, especially the split rear door. The front end looks strange but I also thought the new defender looked strange on first sight and like it now.
I'd be really interested to see it in person and what the look like when people inject their own personality and accessories. It won't tempt me away from my current defender but is certainly the front runner when it eventually dies. INEOS are saying all the right things about the truly important stuff - off road capability but also not having to suffer for it...... not that I feel I suffer in the Defender but I wouldn't turn my nose up at a little more comfort. |

You can actually blame the Prof for many things, and I would, but this is not one on them. He may well be guilty of voicing it publically; but it was very much a corporate line obviously discussed internally and agreed upon as being the party line. I find the Puma extremely comfortable and relaxing to drive. I am not in the market for a replacement but if I were INEOS have something that would interest me. The new JLR offering does not interest me. INEOS seem to have started from what I have now and adapted it to meet various regulations that JLR said could not be done. There is no doubt that the current GRENADIER depictions are not the final production versions but represent the basic direction of travel, and in my view they are heading in the right direction. The front does not seem to mesh with the rest of the vehicle but I am sure it could be modified as the project progresses.
We will see how the interior developes. I wonder if they will go with a flat floor with rubber covering? There are no front vents so does that mean we will get a normal type dash? Tom Sheppard modified a Discovery dash to fit his 90 300 tdi and it worked very well with lots of flat space but he did it so the vents could still be used. Wonder how much electrics will feature? I am in the yes please camp and as soon as you can! The new Defender had totally missed its point in my view and the ridiculous hype and secrecy surrounding it got quite boring. I appreciate the apparent honesty and open approach the Grenadier is taking.
It wont be replacing my rather fine 300TDI but it might well earn a place next to it. |

When the defender or should I say 110 / 90 were revealed back in the 80’s , I can’t imagine that a vast amount was said about the styling , mainly because it wasn’t hugely relevant . It was aimed squarely at the utilitarian market .
Jump forward a few decades to the Grenadier and again you have a vehicle aimed squarely at the utility market, the rake of the bonnet , the shape of the grill and the look of the rear lights will have no bearing with the customer base they’re aiming at . It has the purpose of the early defenders at heart but with modern engineering throughout and improving on almost every aspect without losing its no nonsense credentials . I imagine Ineos had a very clear checklist and I should think they’ve ticked every one of them . At the very bottom of the list was “needs to look pretty” ! Good on them and I have no doubt this will be a success . No doubt they’ll have military contracts in their sights as well as emergency services etc . I like it, a lot. Defender, Gwagon, Toyota FJ Cruiser (bonnet sort of) all rolled into one.
Let’s face it, it couldn't have been an exact Defender copy so there had to be some styling variations. When I saw the new ‘Defender’ I was underwhelmed but when I saw the Grenadier I thought ‘wow they appear to have nailed it style wise, and I’m sure the engineering on the drivetrain and chassis components will have been well thought out. As regards JLRs reaction to copyright I don’t think they’d be able to do anything after all how many cars/suv’s look very similar to one another, that’s the way it is. Probably couldn’t afford to buy a new one tbh but I do have the lottery on for tonight. |
