We traded our discovery 4 in for a disco sport on a pre release order , we were so disappointed with it that we sold it 6 months later ! We managed to sell it for just shy of the purchase price due to the waiting list at the time.
We went straight back to a discovery 4 . The interior was extremely dull, the plastics had some unfinished edges. The seats were uncomfortable, it got stuck on the farm doing the simplest jobs, albeit on wet grass and in comparison to the D4 and defender it was unpleasant to tow with and didn't like that extra weight at the back My biggest frustration though was with the automatic tailgate , waiting for it to open and shut are precious minutes I’ll never get back ! I had a discovery sport on courtesy it was the worst Ile of dung I every had the misfortune of using.
Skoda yeti dsg is nice but they are expensive however they do have high residuals |

Discovery Sport is not intended to replace the duties of Defender nor Disco 4 but Freelander 2.
Think of it as more practical Evoque (same platform, but longer wheelbase) which gets flexible and surprisingly spacious interior - sliding/recling row 2 seats and a 3rd row in the back. These features directly addressed the short-comings of Freelander 2 and offer an Evoque matching dynamic drive and style in a more family friendly package, hence the more basic interior and less plush surfaces. This was deliberate to differentiate Discovery branded car to Range Rover branded ones. I'm on my 2nd (both HSE Lux) and its great as everyday family transport and the go to choice in mucky weather. If you like the Evoque but want a bit more space, its ideal. The trick is to have it in addition to a Defender, not instead of  Instagram: l90andy

I’ve been in a top spec disco v sport and I was very impressed.
However in terms of practicality I think a disco IV would be better, however I’ve noticed older disco IVs especially top spec ones also increasing in price. I’m not sure the reason why they have a 2wd option when there are 2wd crossovers that do it better for less. Andy the evoque was the freelander replacement, I’m not entirely sure why the disco sport exists, but I suspect that it’s to keep Land Rover as a brand and to avoid a name change to Range Rover. If you like some comfort and good finishing quality, and want to stay within the JLR cars lineup, take a look at the Jag E-Pace. Had one on loan from my dealer this week when the SVX was there for maintenance. Was really impressed by how nice it looks inside and outside, and how it drives. Both E and F-Pace are nice cars I think, much better than anything that Gerry McGovern came in close contact with.

Hi Greeni, had a Disco Sport SE tech Auto for two years from new. Absolutely no problems whatsoever. Drives better than Disco 5 due to firmer suspension. It absolutely thrashes the competition off road but don't expect to do any extreme off roading as it isn't as capable (obviuosly) as a Defender or Disco 4/5. I don't use it for towing as I use the Defender to tow the horse trailer but is ideal for two large dogs, we have a TransK9 box in the back. Second row seats have lots of fore and aft adjustment to either give passengers more room if you move them back or loads of luggage space if you move them forwards.
I'm due to change early 2020 so will definitely be getting another one ( face lifted version should be out later this year). Defender 90XS SW Mini Countryman Cooper S Morgan Plus 8 |

Thanks all for your input. Disco 4/5 are too fat for me, let alone the horror stories of weeping injectors washing the oil. I appreciate that if you're towing, there's not a lot better. Jags just don't quite appeal, neither the Skoda, even though I've seen a mate in his Yeti pull itself out of some big deep mud hole, I was convinced it would get stuck.... Impressed the hell out of me. Electric tailgate? stupidly enough, that could be a game changer for me. Can you 'code' that out? If that failed on me, I'm sure I'd set the thing on fire and walk away. I hate tech things like that...pointless. What's difficult about opening and closing a boot? It must be for the 'Alexa' owners out there. |

I’ve got a Disco Sport and absolutely love it. It’s the everyday family wagon as small enough for all the car parks. Prior to it had a Q7 which the mrs found too big to easily park. Had loads of Audi’s prior to the DS and fancied a change and it’s not as refined as them but has been spot on. It was 6 months old when we got it and comes with LR warranty and rescue.
If you’re after something not too big to easily get around in that will cruise at 80 down the motorway I’d have to recommend it. I’ve had it off road at the land rover experience and hats off it a tough little thing. The suspension travel is really impressibe hence on the road it has quite soft suspension so you can’t slide around the roundabouts. The electric boot is great, also the app so you can pre-start in this cold weather. Nothing like heating it up after standing watching the kids play football or rugby on the cold. The Jag and RR Evoque lacked a boot that was big enough. We’ve got the 7 seats version that are ok for the kids on short journeys. |

Ours has the electric tailgate which is operated by push button outside tailgate, button on dash and by key fob button, it doesn't have the fancy "flash your foot" at it. It can be a disadvantage if you have dogs that want to rush out as soon as they see a chink of light, unless you have the reflexes of a West Indian wicket keeper or as quick on the draw as Clint Eastwood. Some models have the good old fashioned manual tailgates. We have a dog crate in the back which negates the problem.

After running Freelander 1&2 and a close call with a Evoque as a second car to Defender/Disco4. We’ve gone German X3,SQ5 and now Golf R Estate. Have to say I wish we left the fold years ago. The German cars aren’t any good off road but on road where they are driven are excellent, LR are so far behind. The price of high spec Disco Sport always made me laugh when I was in LR Dealers with the Defender/Disco 4.
I’d drive some of the other Marquees, you maybe surprised, we were. |

Had one for a week as a courtesy car and went down to Cornwall for a few days. It really felt cheap and nasty, even the kids commented on it. It didn’t make progress as quickly as I’d hoped the manual box was notch and it did decidedly average mpg. Kids and dogs were cramped, an FL2 HSE would win hands down for me.

well to be honest.... have a 2018 model, few glitches ( washer empty light not working
 ) but other than that it is super good,,... 38mpg average. comfy and quiet. Drove through beast from the East to an emergency on unploughed deep snow...brilliant and better in snow than my 2017 Disco 4 ( by far).
Great second car for the Defender ! just my experience. I have had/ have: freelander freelander 2 freelander2 sd4 defender 90 Landmark discovery 4 defender tdci 2.4 |
