Mantec wading kit for Puma - why is there none?
I'm going to buy a Mantec RAI for my Puma and see there is no wading kit for the Puma model, although there is a kit for each of the other models including the TD5. Any ideas why this is? Is it due to the RAI not really being a snorkel so you shouldn't need breather pipes in the first place?

Hi,

There was a post about this a while back..you can get one if you get in touch with Devon 4x4. I would think its because RAI is not really a snorkel like you said. Even if you sealed it you have the other electronics to sort out..

The new 07 Defenders do not require wading kits, this has been confirmed by Land Rover. Wadings can only be used with 2006 prior models.

LR says that because the also say that the max wading depth is half way up the hubs, therefore not over the standard breathers. They couldn't really then endorse a breather kit as that would surely be saying "wading deeper is fine, just get a breather kit"

oh, also, the mantec RAI is easily a snorkel if you seal the joins from the wing pipe to the first pipe and then to the airbox. add some instant gasket to the airbox and you have a snorkel

Thanks, sounds as though there's some warranty concerns but with the RAI fitted I should be ok taking the water level above the top of the wheel rim - otherwise the Defender is getting worse over time!

The earlier post on this subject said that the standard fit breather pipes were reasonably high up in any case. However, Devon 4x4 fitted extension pipes supplied by Mantec (ie TD5 breather kit I think) so that the breathers finished at the top of my Safari Snorkel.

Other posts have noted that you will need to seal the air filter box drain holes to make the system fully waterproof assuming that you have sealed all the other joints as mentioned above

The part number on my invoice is 10-WK3-TD5

What about the plug on the accelerator pedal, might be worth waterproofing that as well, not sure what would happen if it became submerged, I'm sure someones tried it, might be ok Original Member Pie n Pea Club.
