Sounds more like front diff, CV or drive flange if its grinding but moving in diff lock. Probably best get it recovered 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Not good. Whilst it does not move are either of the propshafts turning when you try to move. If one is then problem is at that end, my money is on front diff, cv joint or drive flange. If no props turning then problem is in transfer box.

Yes tried to look at the props, see if they were turning. Could not see any movement. Money on the transfer box, just curious why it sound from the front offside, but I was in a field with storm Dennis battering the living daylights out of me. 1990 200tdi conversion 90

More likely to be front end, either shaft or diff than transfer box. If a transfer box fails, it is usually terminal and non driveable. Hold my beer and watch this!

You should check the drive flanges first. Easy to look at. KEEP CALM AND Drill ON

Were there early 200 tai faults with a drive gear in the transfer box - later ones were cross drilled to allow lube into the gear mesh IIRC?
I think you can see the fault through the PTO window at the back, an early version of the puma adapter shaft failure, world turns, a new generation of engineers appear and make the same mistakes of 25 years earlier! Keith |

Spot on, front right CV joint disintegrated. Going to renew both sides, the half shaft looks in good nick, would you replace at the same time?
Having dark thoughts about selling up after repairing the CV joints. 🤨 1990 200tdi conversion 90 |

If you’ve just blown apart the race then just slip a new cv on. They are usually the weak point due to the forces through the bearing race. Hold my beer and watch this!
