2.4 Puma knocking/ticking
HELLO ALL,

Everyone knows what defender i have....From today i have had a bad problem with my defender 2.4, it started making a loud knocking/ticking noise this morning on the way into work,
topped up the oil as it was low at midday and at 5PM there was no difference on the dipstick....
i came to start it up at the end of the day and it suddenly started making the noise again and the whole engine or car was juddering like crazy..even on a cold engine and standstill in the car park!!
might be getting it towed away tomorrow for a check over
but has anyone on here got any ideas of what it could be..to be honest i am fearing for the worst and if it comes to a new engine then so be it Rolling with laughter
its all part of defender life! hah
any help would be very valued and appreciated..sooner the better Whistle

many thanks in advance
Arran

Check your injectors are not loose!

The clamp bolt can undo, which results in a very Nasty knocking.
You will see, or feel your injectors bouncing. 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

Wanted, Forward Control Anything considered.

As above, Prezzy on here just had the same thing a couple of days ago on his svx. He popped it into the Landrover centre who got them all rebolted in the day Ray

Plus, I very much doubt it'll come to a new engine. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Have a look under here:

If they be like that fasten em up a bit, but don't go nuts or you'll break the torque to yeild bolt.

Couple of threads on the forum already... Other than that, good luck finding it! Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...

IF it was the 'injector problem' also take some time to:
Drain engine oil (use motorflush before)
Remove oil sump and clean inside
Remove and clean the oil pump strainer.
Install everything back.
Refill with (new) engine oil.

Maybe you could make some pictures how the oil pump strainer looked like before the cleaning (I forgot to do that myself Embarassed ).

Good luck!

PS Don't forget to also change the cupper rings under the injectors, the 'original' LR are really expensive, but sometimes you can find them much cheaper on the WWW.

Hello chaps,
Excellent thread, my Puma has the same as in the video. The knocking is horribly loud, I thought it was the end of the engine...

Anything else I should have in mind when doing this?

Thanks in advance for the help
