Power steering fluid change frequency
Having checked the driver's hand book, quite a comprehensive document in the early days. Whilst it recommends checking and topping up of the PS fluid, it (as far as I can find) does not recommend changing it at any point.
Presumably it degrades to some degree over time and would benefit from being changed, any thoughts on how frequently?
I have just changed mine, along with the paper element filter, it having been in there for 75,000 miles. It is not a Defender, it is a One_Ten

I've read various articles over the years on this subject and I think in reality nobody knows. Anything from annually, 60,000 miles, 100,000 miles and five years.

I guess if you're going to change it then 75,000 miles seems a good compromise. Defender 90XS SW

Did you notice any improvement? Freer? Quieter? More responsive? Nada? Monsieur Le Grenadier

Haven't been out in it yet. TBH after having examined the fluid that came out. I was pleasantly surprised by how clean and clear it was. It didn't appear to be any different to the new fluid.
A major part of draining the old fluid out was to enable me to see the bottom of the reservoir thus ensuring that I positioned the new filter correctly. It is not a Defender, it is a One_Ten

Quick update. Went out for a drive the other day and the steering feels, not quite sure how to describe this. It feels firmer, with perhaps a little more resistance, almost as though the fluid is thicker. I probably only noticed it because I was looking for there to be a difference. It is not a Defender, it is a One_Ten

Changed mine recently when fitting an Allisport reservoir. Made no difference at all to the steering.

The power steering reservoir looks very cool though.

It wont need changing before a mechanical failure in the fluid system. Think how hard it works in an auto box and that's approx 60k mile changes and comes out really dark sometimes. It's not worked hard and if right colour will be fine. Cheers

Never changed mine on either vehicle, both of which are approaching the quarter-million mile mark.

Does the power steering fluid lubricate the steering box, or does that have separate oil/grease? 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Yes, it lubricates the box and pump.

Interesting to note. whilst having a scrute at the bay of flea recently in search of a particular hose for the PS. I noticed a lot of PS fluid coolers for sale. From later LR models, which suggests that it either works harder on those vehicles or that it is degraded by heat?
One of the reasons I fitted the larger metal reservoir was to increase the quantity of PS fluid in the system, significantly as it worked out. It is not a Defender, it is a One_Ten
