I've got a genuine one waiting to go in, but there were some positive comments for the Bearmach one when I was doing my research. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

I think I would risk non-genuine. Search for part # cpe500020 - plenty available for under a tenner!
Use plenty of sealant (sikaflex?)... That's what I would do anyway! Agree the ~£90 for an OEM part is a bit steep to say the least! You could always try Dan @ Duckworth's first? Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |

I would opt for the cheapest aftermarket, reason being is having fitted genuine a few times and to my cost found they last no longer than aftermarket, in fact, they may even last not as long. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

There was a time when the genuine ones were definitely superior, and had more sealing ribs than the aftermarket ones. Now the genuine ones have been value-engineered to the extent that they are just as inadequate as the cheap ones, albeit still at the inflated OE price.
An aftermarket one properly fitted with an appropriate sealant should be fine. I would not use Sikaflex on a windscreen seal since it is likely that one day you'll have to replace the screen and you don't really want to find that the seal is now irremovably bonded to the frame. I would just get my local friendly independent windscreen fitter to fit it using his expertise and recommended sealer, on the understanding that if it leaks he'll get it back for another attempt at his expense. |

Frost Restoration do a non adhesive windscreen sealant, it was recommended on here by Zagato I think. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

I bought an AllMakes PR2 OE seal for £11.45 posted three and a half years ago and it's still like new. Had a local one man fitter install it on the drive which wasn't cheap, or easy, but has been fine ever since

Thank you for the replies.
I am going to give it a go sealing the original seal first which looks in good condition, although it has started pouring in recently. Bought one recently, with a replacement screen. Believe it was a bearmach. Didn't use sealant as there wasn't any on what came out, and the frame was in good condition, just thoroughly cleaned it all!
No leaks thus far.... |

It shouldn't be necessary to use any sealant if the seal and aperture are in good condition. The need for sealant is usually indicative of deterioration.

Just done mine, bought a genuine screen rubber, my local indie body shop fitted for 60 quid, he does glass removal/replacement himself, say the rubber was a really good fit, I know the OE rubber is much more expensive, but hoped it would be better quality and fit. Sold Def 90 HT 2010...Stornaway..(SOLD in Oct 2014)

I understand that originally they are fitted without sealant but the Land Rover water ingress instructions suggest that sealant is the recommended solution.
For a couple of pounds for the sealant its worth giving it a go first rather than risk breaking the screen changing the seal. If it doesn't work then I haven't lost anything and if it does work then I have potentially save a decent amount of money. I shall let you all know how I get on.
