What am I missing?
Hi all
Just trying to do a wheel bearing and cannot budge the nut , have I missed something or is it stuck fast?

Sorry some reason pic won’t load, td5 with the single locking nut.
I have straightened the locking plate but still cannot move the nut to take hub off.

2004 Defender 110 Td5 DCPU Epsom Green
I had to remove one of mine with a 3ft scaff bar. Make sure you use a proper 52mm socket.

Second nut had to be drilled off - Use a stepped drill bit

They are just Censored TIGHT

No the should just undo. Sounds like you need a decent length breaker bar and a possible handle extension to increase the torque.

There should not be a "locking plate" with the single stake nut.

As others have said, one the staking has been released it should just unscrew, so what you are missing is probably a long enough handle on the socket.

Generally (though not good practice) they will unscrew without unstaking the nut provided that you use an adequate length breaker bar.

Now replace them with the old two nut system. It’s far better, and doesn’t ruin stub axles.
