It is the Transit version of the 2.2 that will be used.
Agree with 'get it now' view - mine should be on the drive next week John http://www.hampshire4x4response.co.uk 2011 Tdci 110 CSW XS |

Why don't they put a singer motor and go totaly green. What a bunch of bean counters for a vehicle that put land rover on the map.I have used the Defender from it's Series 2 days and enjoy it's heritage and it's fualts that it has had from then. What other 4x4 has made it this far that still looks like the original and recognised without a badge on. The market for "restored" defenders will grow. You can spec it how you like, with wat engine / box combo and what ever trim level. And better built than the factory in some cases.
Lower fixed rates of RFL the bonuses are endless i'm keep my 2, they'll last me out! |

So, things get a bit more clear. I received my order confirmation for the new one. It will arrive in October and it will be a year 11 model with 2.4 Puma. Landrover is going to produce as long as November before switchibg to modell year 12 and that will be fitted with the 2.2 engine.

try driving a 2.2 mondeo the engine is amazing if the defender engine goes that way there is little to worry about, however smaller somehow seams wrong to me as well, V6 sounds like a good idea but for a couple of years? DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,
I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy |

CC's are nothing to worry about, just look at BMW and Volkswagen group diesels. They are putting out far more BHP than the equivalent Petrol models. I own a BMW 123d and it puts out more BHP than a Sierra Cosworth and almost treble the fuel consumption of a Golf GTi from a 2.0 litre soot chucker. 2008 RS4 gone, 123d M Sport, and a Puma 90 XS..

I also read it as being that the 130 will be dropped (why???) and the pickups. I also heard from a source that there is not much hope of the 2.2 being any good for towing, so I'm glad I'm getting one of the very last 2.4s next week. Apparently anything ordered from about next week onwards will turn up with a 2.2 engine inside. 2011 110 USW

well it seems the dealers here in Ireland were right after all as they have been aware of the engine change for a while now.
Here, though, the $64000 question is emissions. The current 110 2.4 = 291g co2 which costs us € 2100 annually for a tax disc. If the 2.2 comes below 225g that will half the road tax. I am totally champing at the bit now and can't wait to order one. Does anyone know if CO2 figures have been published yet for the 2.2 ? Can't find anything on google |

We can estimate CO2 from the Ford Transit data. The 2011 Ford ECOnetic does have 7.2l consumption and 189 g CO2, the 2012 Ford Transit ECOnetic FT 280 K is said to go for 178, or 173 g CO2 when speed reduced to 110 km/h. The Defender won't go that down, but I suspect it might go below 200. Official data on the new 2.2 is on its way. Compare the Defender with the AWD Transit -> old: 2.4Puma 140hp/375NM goes to new: 2.2Puma 125hp/350NM. My experience with these green-optimized engines is that the loss in power is greatly felt in daily live and am happy to receive one of the last 2.4 engines ...

Have I read this right? The 2.4 Transit is 189 and the 2.2 Transit is 173 (at it's lowest).
So Transit dropped by nearly 9%. If Defender drops but the same proportion your 291 will become 266, still some way off 225. I really can't see the swap to the smaller engine in a car that weighs so much with brick-like aerodynamics knocking off the (225/291) 22% you are looking for. Sorry. C |
