Could well do but the vehicle would not be road legal then as it would not comply with the laws that specified the fitting of the plastic bumper in the first place. Also it would have to be notified to my insurance company as a modification and they might not cover it as it did not comply with the laws thus in force re the plastic bumper. Eurocrats have a lot to answer for.Hopefully no plastic bumpers for a while yet. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

as mentioned the 2.2 is the 'same' engine different bore and not the PSA engine found in the freelander.
when I was told about this about 12 months ago I was also told about a modification to be more pedestrian friendly? no idea what that means but could be a new bumper or it could be a load of rubbish or as mentioned now commericail no need to pursue that option? |

I wonder, though, if there are changes coming to the classification? Apparently the commercial status means it's actually quite difficult to bring into Finland, and many other EU countries. I would have thought this would all be standardised throughout the EU, but regulations do seem to differ a bit per country.

If all will be commercial, does that mean there will be no more production station wagons? Land Rover Defenders. 67 years heritage, minimal appearance changes, still going strong all over the world. Not a fashion vehicle, but fashionable to own. Made for the needy, not the greedy. Ta ta Defender

Every defender (even S/W's) has been a classed as a commercial from 'I think' 09 on.
To be honest, I think if people are stupid enough to be somewhere that a large blunt fronted vehicle might run them over then it's their own fault. Not the people who build em. 1982 Wife 1984 300 Tdi 110 H/T 'Recovery' Plus 4 kids and a dog. Again a search will find loads of post where this has been discussed The answer to your question is no as your 08 will be classified as M1 construction in the Vehicle Category on the V5C (Registration Certificate) A commercial Defender is Classed as an N1. Its all about the construction rules that were worked to when the vehicle was built. M1 = Vehicles used for the carriage of passengers and comprising no more than eight seats in addition to the driver’s seat. N1 = Vehicles used for the carriage of goods and having a maximum mass not exceeding 3.5 tonnes 130's have feeling's as well you know |

Hi Folks,
I hope the new engine will be the only major change in the 2012 model .... I'd hate to see my new Defender being delivered with independent wheel suspension and/or plastic bumbers etc ... Best Regards, Axel |
