Only remote connectivity features of true value to me and we use regular are, remote climate, checking if the cars locked when you leave it and suddenly think “did I lock the car?”, remote lock when you find you did leave the car unlocked and then the Land Rover route planner App which syncs your routes with your phone. Oh and checking the sunroof is shut when it looks like rain and you can’t be bothered getting up 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE

That one I find really bizarre and would love to know the reasons behind it - I'd be banging my head against a wall if the answer was it was incompatible with the fridge option! |

Even then weren't those functions perfectly well served by older tech? Remote climate - well parking heater was available on the key fob of my ancient RRS and don't most cars have an option to auto lock after a timeout if keys aren't in ignition? |

I had remote fob for park heat it just fired up the fuel burning pre heater not the climate and only worked from a few hundred metres.
Not aware of any old tech car that times out after you park up and locks the car. Most cars time out if you unlock and don’t open any doors to counter accidental unlocking. Once you open the door it stays unlocked. Some new techw cars do have range based locking so you walk away with the fob or phone and it locks but that’s new tech. The features I called out are indeed basic and pretty old news, they are executed better in the new LR cars in opinion and hopefully will keep being updated and improved on. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE RR MY23 HSE PHEV D5 MY19 HSE - Now Sold D4 MY16 HSE Luxury - Now Sold D4 MY12 HSE - Gone D3 MY06 S - Gone but not forgotten |

My Velar didn’t come with the LR supplied sim that started for the 19MY. I buy a 3 Network sim from Amazon, I forget the price but it’s 24GB (1GB month basically) lasts 24 months. I’ll be doing the same with the Defender, though should be able to use a mobile phone as a hotspot.

I may have been generalising on the auto lock then, but I have an old Smart Fourtwo which does it after 2 minutes. I think you can toggle the option on/off but don't think you can alter the delay.
Only reason I know is if you faff about at the fuel pumps the fuel flap locking pin triggers whilst open and you have to unlock the vehicle before being able to shut it. |

You didn’t miss much with the supplied SIM, I took the LR sim out day one. the firm they use in the uk is a total rip off. Got a Three sim on an amazon prime deal that will last ages even with satellite maps on permanently. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE

I'm wondering if you can get LR or their selected provider of mobile network operator services (“MNO Service Provider”) to provide a code to port the eSIM, as that would seem the only way to enable wifi hotspot if you don't have a SIM slot.

The more of this I read, the more determined I become to stick with my Disco2, classic Defender, and Series Is until the time comes to give up driving!

To be honest it doesn’t make any difference fitting a sim to the car, for some it might, I’ve been running around without one since February. Only bought another because of the software updates, even then it’s not needed as they can be applied at the dealers come service time. |

I'd be more concerned that in 3 years LR will do a Microsoft and withdraw support unless you buy an expensive upgrade.
It also worries me that the cyber security aspects of modern vehicle systems are lagging far, far, behind the saleable glamourous aspects and I have absolutely no doubt that before long there will be an explosion of ransomeware attacks, and mindless viruses delivered to vehicles. Do any insurers offer ransomeware insurance yet? |
