I don’t have park heat on my car but it was available as an option. aFAIK even in new Defender it has a second fob to activate it. I had it on my last L322 and RRS and to be honest it was a waste of time compared to the fully electric system that both my Evoques and the Mini PHEV had - never needed to pre-heat the Evoques as they have a PTC heater, not engine heat heater and the Mini would warm or cool to whatever temperature was set on the climate control automatically so long as it was plugged into the mains and you set a start time into the app. New Defender has as standard on my car remote starting for the engine so instead of burning diesel in a separate burner you run the engine so it warms up nicely for 30 minutes before driving away from the app - dread to think what it does for the environment sat idling for 30 minutes which I thought was now illegal. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

How does the remote start get by with little difficulty that it is illegal to leave a vehicle unattended with the engine running? You could use it on private property but not anywhere the Road Traffic Acts apply.

Land Rover expects buyers of their vehicles to live at the end of a long drive with big gates and a man to open them at the road end?
It only starts the engine , it doesn’t unlock the car and the immobiliser is still set, the same system has been available on RRS and D5 since 2019MY IIRC. The D240 warms up within a mile of leaving home for me so I’m sure I’ll manage with the heated steering wheel and heated seats until the engine gets up to normal and warm air starts to come out of the vents. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

I’ve used it once on the Velar, that was during the beast from the east, I don’t even have the heated steering wheel on the velar.

I'm betting that JLR are some way behind the likes of Tesla:

I think we got to bottom of this on another thread on the another sister forum. ill try and find it I can't for the life of me remember but it made sense when we sussed it Laughing I know there are certain things that make it cut out when you get in I've done it before and its shut down but if you get in, shut the door buckle up and press the brake it lets you get it in gear I think if you miss a step it won't let you get it in drive and shuts down. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE

update

just checked my app it warns you to do it where its legal and then when you do it the car is completely lifeless except the engine no lights, no dash - nothing. I think if you do anything other than take control by pressing the brake (say try and indicate ) it shuts down.

That's a bit of a cop-out but more or less what I expected. Road traffic law is quite explicit about this and the fact it shuts down if you try to drive off doesn't alter the legal situation at all, it just makes it harder for someone to pinch your car.

It will be interesting to see if we start to see people getting FPNs or prosecuted as these systems become more widespread. I expect we'll get rather shirty owners who feel that "someone should have told them" if we do.

If the vehicle was really smart it would use its GPS to determine if it is on a public ROW or in a place to which the public has access and inhibit the system.

Similar thing happened with Jeep products two years ago IIRC, driver couldn’t control the car after a computer security expert had hacked the Jeep drive by wire system. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

Yep I guess it’s the same for anyone be it using an app to start it and leave it unattended on a road or they do it with a key many don’t realise they could be fined.

GPS idea is viable but I doubt Land rovers legal team would let them touch it with a barge pole as if it fails they could be in hot water much safer to keep liability with the owner. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE

Odd purchasing arrangements:

"This vehicle is currently in stock at Land Rover Hatfield and can be purchased from Lamborghini Tunbridge Wells."

It’s a common theme, always the same parts that are missing.
