I think that's what takes the cake really. Just how hard would it have been to have a few Defender-esque features. A two-section roof, alpine lights, a different bonnet shape, round lamps...as it stands I see nothing about it that makes you think "ah yes, that's a unique Defender feature". 2011 110 USW 1973 Series III 1-Ton 1972 Series III 1-Ton Cherrypicker 1969 IIA 1-Ton 1966 IIA 88" |

I did have a lengthy phone conversation with marketing a few years ago, told them all about what I wanted in a new model. I can't imagine I'm alone in my views.
It needed updating technologically, not stylistically. I reckon Joe Public may well have been interested in a technologically sophisticated, quiet and comfortable Defender. As it stands they will just now be splitting sales betwixt the Discovery and the new Defender. How will it bring in new customers exactly? 🤔 2011 110 USW 1973 Series III 1-Ton 1972 Series III 1-Ton Cherrypicker 1969 IIA 1-Ton 1966 IIA 88" |

This was my point in another post. If they make the new Defender just another premium vehicle with no entry level work truck I imagine it will just cannibalise sales from the other “premium” offerings.

My God that thing ^ is ugly. Makes me wince, just to look at it. If disappointment with the new Defender is encouraging people to buy that thing, then JLR have a lot to answer for. Apologies to those who like it, good job we are all different. |

Yes Defender9 , here lies the problem at Land Rover now .
The once very distinctive Defender , Discovery and Range Rover ranges complimented each other and had different appeal to consumers . Now they all look the same , and have more of a pick your size , big or small . I have a friend who spend a good day in my Disco 4 , with a sober driver behind the wheel , we did an awesome pub crawl , 5 of us . He was so impressed with the ride and refinement , I talked him into a Land Rover . His new too the brand , showroom experience went like this . Went into look at Disco 5 , hhmm , lost some of its distinctive practicality and found back seat wanting , but at that price point , also looked at Velar , loved that , but at that price point , bang for the buck and the only model they would do a slight deal on was a Range Rover sport . He went to buy a Land Rover and ended up with a Range Rover sport , new to the brand customer . In our market all the models are overlapping in equipment and pricing and to justify the price point they are all highly specced . I believe Defender2 will be at a very similar price point to other product , so the 90 might be the start point but in reality , 2 door cars sell in very small numbers these days . The defender 90 was pulled from the Australian market , we had to indent order one in the kiwi market and the evoke 2 door has been killed off because no one bought it , despite it being a better looking product . Now if they are clever ,( which I seriously doubt , because in reality the plight they find themselves in was very foreseeable , by going down this route of one shape fits all and not addressing there reputation issues ) we will see truck versions . Can you imagine going into a fancy new corporate JLR showroom tomorrow and seeing double cab pick ups Immediately customers will be drawn to the product , this is the new practical growth boom market product every show room needs to break up the rather sterile jelly mould suvs . What is surprising vehicle brands is the sale of highly specced utes trucks pickups . Bread and butter models , just are not moving . This Trend plays right into the hands of Land Rover . Wake up and smell the Coco , It is imperative that there is a truck version of a Defender immediately , for brand cred in global markets . Just watch the success the Gladiator , rivian and bollinger will be !!!! |

More strenuous testing there of that mule ?
Articulation , component durability , mud , dust , or maybe invisible bonnet leaf viewing ? Now if they were serious about durability testing , They could have mules in the Kimberleys of Western Australia Bull catching ! For those of you unfamiliar with this phrase google this and watch what makes Landcruisers legendary . Land Rovers have never been strong enough for this activity , And this new creation even less so ! |

It appears to have wing top protection, aka 5 bar Ali plate, fitted to the outer edges of the bonnet.

Nice pictures, not much being hidden anymore. Even the parking sensors are there already, so guess this is 99% the final model. I do like what I see here, much better than the Sport/Velar/Eewok models. But it remains a modern SUV, doesn’t beat our legends though.
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |
