Congrats cozz and welcome to the Rubicon club. Diesel or petrol?

Mostly USA postings, but tons of interesting reading and info.

@Chugga90. Yes the front bumper is not the prettiest thing.
An owner in Cheshire is looking at sourcing a stumpy steel version with the front parking sensor holes pre-drilled. The USA versions don't get front park sensors, so most bumpers don't have the holes.

My longer term plan is to pick up an older Series LR vehicle or early 90 rag top, hopefully once prices start to return to more sensible levels. I still have LR running through my veins, but the love affair with the Puma was over a few month back.
Still active on this forum and trying to pass on whatever help or knowledge I can to those with questions.

But as more and more details of the new Defender become available, I am glad I decided to go down the Jeep route and not wait to see the new Defender in the flesh. I'm sure it will be very competent, but too radical a departure from it's origins and just another jellymould "bitsa" from the current parts bin. and I bet, by the time you've added a few nice to have options, the price will be well north of the cost of a low mileage top spec Rubicon with all the bells & whistles.

Yeah I’m putting on a stubby steel bumper with the sensors drilled

It’s the 2.0 petrol 280bhp. Part exed my renegade. Still got my series 3 rag top 1984

Like you I ve been pouring over the pics of the new defender but it just looks like another Land Rover clone to me at the moment . I think that jeep have kept it real and true with the new wrangler which I’m sorry to say it doesn’t look like Land Rover are doing with the defender

In light of what we are hearing from McGovern and seeing in spy shots good call on getting a wrangler.
Can you get the new wrangler rubicon with deisel and manual?

Diesel yes. Manual no. 8 speed auto only.
High and low box with 2wd/4wd/4wd locked centre in high range and 4wd locked centre in low.
Rubicons have front and rear lockers as standard with front anto roll bar electric disconnect.

Congratulations on the JL. Thumbs Up
I recently tested a US spec 2.0 Turbo and was very impressed with the power, smoothness and build quality.
Getting in the Defender now feels like handbrake is left on, or there's a trailer on the back!
Really considering going the same way.

Congrats on the Jeep decision .

I bet every drive will put a smile on your face , legendary design aka porsche 911 .

My Defender is also legendary , just to whip down to the shops ,
it feels like I have gone on a Safari .

Will the new Defender possess this feel ?????

After looking at pictures of the test mule, I would like to make some suggestions.

Why has the bonnet got such a deep flange? Why are there rectangular panels under the door windows? Why is the roofline so high above the door tops?

How about this for an explanation: the body of the mule is hiding a final body shape that has much more in common with the old Landie? Imagine taking off that deeply flanged bonnet and replacing with a lowered bonnet top, tapering toward the front and matched at the sides with even lower front wings. And changing the front grille and panel, something fairly easy to do. Imagine removing those rectangular panels on the doors to expose much lower window sills. Imagine lowering the front section of the roofline, either by sloping it forward, as with our old beloved Landie or perhaps with a steep reduction behind the front seats, as with the old Discos.

Suddenly, without much effort (perhaps intentionally) we have something that looks very much like a modernised Landie shape. Food for thought.

Ah well, that looks much more like a final product and to me the sides look quite good.

What a pity about the bonnet - very conventional. Unlikely to change from that now, I suppose.

Like how hard really would it have been to put a traditional shaped Defender bonnet on this ,
Leafy suburb SUV , like come on ????

Maybe this is a whole new vehicle segment created here ,

I learnt recently that Land Rover have had the tram lines running down all their bonnets for decades so you know where the inside of the front wheels are.

This new PDV Defender will have a camera , and an invisible bonnet , just like the evoke

We will be able to see the leaves on the bitumen floating around the suburbs

And we will be able to see the curbs so we don't damage the low profile rims .
