The only thing you need is
- plastic wheelarches - steel rims - configurable terrain response with the locking rear diff - 200 hp diesel or petrol This is nowhere near 90k? But still too expensive |

200hp could be OK, as it won't be long until folks like Jose, Pete and Ian rearrange the ones and noughts to make it go properly.

An extremely important point for some of us. One can only hope that the commercial version [especially the 90] will be lighter? - ie under the 2 tonnes for DPV |

I was driving along today wondering why I dislike the new pretender, when in the distance I saw an older Defender and then it occurred to me why. People bought the old model Range Rover's and Discovery's because they were different, as soon as your eye caught sight of one, you new what it was. It madea statement, I am different or I can afford a Range Rover or I need a rugged working vehicle, nothing looked similar to them, they stood out. Now I hardly notice any of Land Rovers current product range and I certainly couldn't tell you which one was which, they are just cars, it could be a Range Rover, a Discovery, a Kia or a Ford or any one of a number of similar looking vehicles. The new pretender certainly dosn't make a statement either, it's just another boring car. I read on another forum someone discribed the designers as inept, judging by what they have produced, inept would be too much praise. Land Rover 1950 series 1

Honestly not that much. No stupid panniers, ladders, bullbars, dog showers or ridiculous wheels. Just the Urban pack, a few creature comforts and a dog guard. My thinking is to show the boss how much it comes to and then how much we will save by instead doing a nut and bolt 90 restoration with Ev powertrain. |

Actually thinking about it, I could fill my boots at Top Hat or Cool'n Vintage for the price of that Defender.

I think that it will, in the future, be used as an example of failure of a design process. There are so many recognisable attributes of the Defender and its predecessors that have been discarded in favour of unnecessary flourishes. This is not what design is about. It should be simple and functional. Authentic. The best design is. It doesn't need to be explained or justified.
I'm not saying this as a die-hard, stereotypical, rigger-booted Defender owner, conveniently being scapegoated for not liking change. But a lifelong car nut and customer with the means to buy one. I am appreciating the basic form of my 2016 Defender a little more today. Such a shame that it couldn't have been respected. If only the 90 was recognisable from its predecessors, along with the vastly improved capabilities it possesses then I would be in a great rush to own one. Money in the bank. As it is there are plenty of other SUVs out there that are also not a Defender. Last edited by milesr3 on 12th Sep 2019 8:19pm. Edited 2 times in total |

Sad day when you get charged for mudflaps. Does it have a jack? I am assuming it does as it has a spare wheel. I have to give it a thumbs up for actually having a full sized spare wheel.
They keep on harping on about smart phones in the brochure.. I do not have ANY type of mobile phone. It does not do anything for me. It is just another car. Interesting that the PHEV can carry more and tow more than the diesel versions. My big concern would be dealer knowledge in the event of any problems. How many times have you seen requests on this forum for help when the dealer cannot find/rectify a fault with a Puma? Maybe things are ment to be changed if a fault shows up. Each to their own but like I said, it's not for me. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel 1992 110 200tdi csw -Zikali 2008 110 2.4 tdci csw-Zulu 2011 110 2.4 tdci csw-Masai |

You are probably right.

I’ve concluded that I admire the engineering that is apparently behind it (will be interested to see some reviews once it’s been driven), I quite like what I’ve seen of the interior (still waiting to find boot space pictures), but not a mad fan of the exterior styling. That seems a missed opportunity, and the likeness to the DC100 is disappointing. The 110 looks better than the 90, but that was always the case to my eyes.
I get entirely that it was never going to be like the Defenders we know and love, that’s fine, JLR is a business and times regulations and markets move on. I’m finding it best to think of it as a different JLR product altogether that happens to share a name with a car I like, rather than trying to see it as evolution of that car. From what I’ve read (all pretty repetitive) it should be a great vehicle, and JLR have maybe done me a favour in going mass market with it as hopefully that means it will quickly reach terminal velocity in depreciation and bring it into affordable territory for me. |

I think that's a good point. It has raised the financial bar for those now able to do the "man maths" and justify all sorts of mods and extras to existing vehicles. 3rd party suppliers and indie garages must be equally happy. |
