The looks of this new Jimny impressed me from the start, but the reports that it is even smaller (to enable it to comply to Japanese "Kei-car" regs, apparently) than its predecessor meant I dismissed it.
Now watching the excellent on-board test above (thanks Bluest), I´m rather impressed. It isn´t very often that a manufacturer maintains the size of a model, let alone make it even shorter, and in this case improves the design. It looks every bit as robust and workhorse-like as an unmolested Defender or a G- Professional. If they would build a 11/10 scale version with a decent turbo 2 litre and a respectable towing capacity, they would sort the market out. Add a five door and a DC and the job´s done. Still more compact than its competitors. Reducing the size and and weight of the vehicles we drive would do far more to improve the environment than any amount of battery powered technology. This little fella might well turn out to be more relevant and significant than even its manufacturer imagined. 1998 Tdi 90 SW, 2008 Td4 90 SW, 2012 2.2 90 SW, 2" raised Trailmaster/Terrafirma Heavy Track Raids, 255 MT´s, Recaro CS´s, anorak, wellingtons |

I had a 1996 geo tracker 2 door with a softop. Fun little vehicle. I made coil spacers at work to give it about 1.5 inches of lift and put 31" tires on it. The Geo Tracker was kind of a suzuki/GM thing. I wish Suzuki would bring them back to the US.

They were sold as the Suzuki Vitara here and were quite popular. The current model Vitara is just soft roader/SUV these days though. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Why, why, why can´t the manufacturers simply leave this rubbish out of even the simplest of vehicle?
"Autonomous Emergency Braking" system on the new Jimny reacts to a guard rail like a scared horse. Who asked for this technology in the first place? Daunting, that systems designed to avoid accidents, could quite possibly end up causing them! I do hope that JLR realise that the most attractive version of their new Defender, is going to be the base version. Or maybe it would be better if they don´t... https://www.motor1.com/news/298310/suzuki-...b-problem/ 1998 Tdi 90 SW, 2008 Td4 90 SW, 2012 2.2 90 SW, 2" raised Trailmaster/Terrafirma Heavy Track Raids, 255 MT´s, Recaro CS´s, anorak, wellingtons |

AEB is going to be compulsory on all new cars sold in the EU from 2021. Let’s hope they can iron out the bugs. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

been to see the one in local dealer today, quite liked it, lovely inside for what it is
would take back seats out and board it out in the back, i am genuinely starting to think that its more defender (straight sides/ladder chassis) than the new defender will ever be which from pouring over all the spy shots looks like a disco4 with a wheel on the back. The sloping sides don't look right to me, Like a box shape one day I want one, next day i want the new defender, |
