I ordered my bulkhead August 2018 and was told 5 week delivery. I finally got delivery of it in December really had to keep chasing them to find out where it was. Then it just got dumped outside my house. All looked good and delivered it to my friendly garage (expert in landy work) and he seemed happy with it. Just spoken to him and it's been an absolute pig to fit. Apparently it looks like a landy bulkhead but all the holes are wrong and odd shapes.
I wouldn't go any where near shielder chassis wish I had looked for review before I ordered from them. |

Reviving an old thread.
Has anyone had any more experience with these bulkheads in the last 18 months? I would like to order one as I like the idea of a galvanized bulkhead made of a single skin - but obviously not if they don't fit properly. I spoke to them at the 2019 Peterborough show and they looked nice visually. I did say that there has been a few negative remarks made of the fit, and they assured me that they've sold a lot of them and not received that feedback themselves. They are apparently all made on a proper jig now, so providing the jig is correct they should fit. Interestingly they are also offering a powder coated finish for a little extra. I assume this is powder coated over the galvanized metal, I wonder if this can then be painted with conventional paint? 2005 Td5 90 XS 1989 V8 110 CSW |

My bulkhead was fitted last march time and I made them aware of the issues but they never acknowledged my email. It wasn't until I left a bad review on a Facebook post that they contacted me. I was assured they had improved there processes now. They promised to send me some seals for my flap vents as they did not seal correctly and I had worse leakage then with my previously rusted out bulkhead. This however toke several months to be sent out and even that toke alot of chasing . I have heard of further bad reviews from people and seen garages/ landy garages advising not to use them for chassis due to poor fitment.

Hmm thanks for the reply Tom, but not really the answer I wanted to hear!
Have you got your vents sealing satisfactorily now? 2005 Td5 90 XS 1989 V8 110 CSW |

Once fitted new vent seals that improved them greatly. It's the extra labour required to fit the bulk head and the poor customer services I wouldn't advise using them

Ah a glimmer of hope in the darkness!
So the product itself is 'OK' once fettled? I'm at a cross roads of either: (a) Trying to repair mine (which admittedly will be fun), but then likely finding it rusting away from the inside anyway (b) Trying to find someone reputable to repair it for me (ditto the rusting away from the inside) (c) Buying a second hand one - but how long would that last? (d) Buying the Shielder Chassis one. As long as it fits, it should last many moons being single skinned and galvanized. Perhaps if I just order over the web and pay up, I won't have to deal too much with their customer service. 2005 Td5 90 XS 1989 V8 110 CSW |

Just to add, I fitted a bulkhead from shielder last April and the fitment was shocking. It took us 2 days to try and rectify the issues, just nothing lined up. We were able to make an alright job of it in the end, but at least another 2 days labour which added up in cost!
But who else to use if you want brand new!? |

That's the problem Sam, no one else is producing them from new that I know of. 2005 Td5 90 XS

For a matter of interest, what didn't line up? I'm building the car more or less from scratch, so I've got nothing to line up to at the moment, but obviously the roof, doors, wing and bonnet need to be square! 2005 Td5 90 XS

agreed, maybe if salvageable, get someone to blast it, repair it and galv it? Ours was too far gone but YRM seem to do plenty of bits for repair sections now, worth a chat with, they are very good.

This is bad news. I was going to try to keep my bulkhead going for 2-3 years before changing with the chassis. I was hoping this would be a good one to go for.
I think it is time to order the rust killer for the inside and start treating the outside! Keep the feedback coming on the chassis folks, we need good honest opinions on this. |

The general consensus on galvanizing the genuine LR bulkheads seemed to be they are too thin metal to do it without warping them, and even then there is a question mark over if the galvanize gets into the inside surface of where Land Rover thought it would be a good idea to fold two metal surfaces over each other.
I'm leaning towards ordering one of these Shielder ones. Its £1788 including VAT and delivery direct from Shielder, or what looks like £1620 + delivery from TerrainTech. https://www.terraintechparts.com/collectio...d-assembly Curious what their delivery charge is, you have to sign up to see if by the looks of things - they do say free for orders under 30kg, but I imagine the bulkhead will be considerably more than that. 2005 Td5 90 XS 1989 V8 110 CSW |

There was much discussion on this about 18 months back & the perceived wisdom was avoid Shielder / Terraintech and get in touch with a guy called Robert at Mosside land rovers - suggestion was contact him through his eBay account 'hairymonsterman' as I recall. Indications were that his bulkheads were 'the mutts'
If you're starting with a bare chassis then you're going to be more than a tad cross when you finally get the rest of the bodywork & doors on only to find nothing lines up because the bulkhead isn't right... |
