There isn't much to the system. Checking the fuses is your next port of call. If they're all good, check the compressor clutch is engaging when you put the AC on, if it's not check the clutch is getting power to it.

When you say “doesn’t work”. In what way do you mean? Just doesn’t blow cold air or nothing happens at all

If the aircon button is pressed it illuminates & starts blowing but warm/hot air!

Did someone fiddle with the temperature controls?
Check the heater recirculation valve on the firewall bulkhead, it ususally does not go all the way down after being reset from hot to cold. A simple press down on the part where the cable operates it closes the valve. |

The dash hasn’t been touched so can’t see it being that, checked the fusebox in the dash 10a & that’s fine. How many fuses are there associated with the aircon?

If the fan is operating then the system is working. Mine didn’t work when I bought it, had it regassed and the fan etc came on and it started working. It’s still rubbish mind

And the control referred to is in the engine bay I think. It’s all cables and things so easy enough to check

That’s strange, it’s gone from blowing very cold air to blowing very hot air. Had it re-gassed & no difference.... |

If you've checked the other things suggested then I may have one other suggestion.
There's a control cable for the heat or cool selector that connects the dial to a lever on the heater matrix. It's all inside the cab, at the bottom of the dash in the centre. Have a look through the maintenance manual that gets posted on here. The issue I had was that the looped end of this cable came off the stud on the lever, meaning when I moved the dial it didn't do another and was stuck on heat! I'm on holiday at the moment, so this is all off the top of my head and I don't have access to the manual to show you, but hope this might direct you a little bit. Cheers Ben |

From what I remember. If the gas pressure is down then the system is immobilised which was how it was in my case. Regassed = problem solved. Where did you get yours regassed? If it was blowing cold air in the first place but warm after it needs to be taken back. I appreciate you’re off on hols with it.

Hi Timcat,
If you watch/listen to the air con compressor when someone presses the air con button in the cab (with the engine running and the fan blower switch on a setting were you know the heater fan is working) then does the compressor make a clicking noise as the button is pressed. You may even notice a slight drop in engine revs as the pump kicks in. With the aircon button switched on and the system working, there should a big temperature difference between the two pipes on the back of the compressor. Does one pipe on the compressor feel nice and cold, and the other one hot? Keep your hands/lose clothing away from the rotating belt on the front of the compressor whilst checking this. If there isn't a big temperature difference, then either the compressor isn't engaging or the system is down on pressure, but not far enough for the low pressure sensor to stop the compressor engaging. If one pipe is nice and cold, then investigate the heater valve as described above. Perhaps the cable has broken and it is stuck in the hot position, or the cable isn't moving the valve far enough to close it fully. |

Right, just camped up in Germany! Both pipes to the compressor are hot & there’s no clicking or drop in revs when the switch is depressed. Scorching here!!

Check you have power getting to the compressor clutch. If you do, then the compressor clutch needs replacing.

The only thing I have with me is a 12v tester ( have a multi-meter but not here) with the air-con on should it have 12v at the plug?
