Series 1 88” rebuild
Made a start today on the long awaited chassis/bulkhead swap on my 88”.
I’ve been collecting parts over the last couple of years, but for various work and family reasons it has been postponed several times, until now......
The aim is to replace the chassis and bulkhead as quickly as possible, so dismantling it in as big chunks as we can manage. It’s not a full restoration by we will replace parts as necessary as we go.
The vehicle is in regular use on and off road and is far from standard, but I originally built it to be useable.
Two of us are having a full week on it next week to see how far we get. The aim is to have it back on the road by the first weekend in March to drive to a pub meet in Somerset
I will try to keep pics updated as we progress Smile

Made good progress today, but it’s always quicker to strip down than rebuild.
Didn’t even need the disc cutter much. Smile
Chassis is not too bad on initial inspection but the bulkhead is well past it’s sell by date.

You will be up and running for the weekend Andrew!

How bad was your chassis in the end,
Are you keeping it for a rainy day? Wink 80" 80" 86" 88" 90"

Ha, ha don’t think it’ll be running by the weekend, but won’t be far off hopefully.

The chassis isn’t as bad as I feared. Needs a new x member, rear tank outrigger and a couple of old repair patches replacing.
Not sure what I’m doing with it yet, but it won’t be scrapped yet.
The bulkhead is a different matter......

Split the engine/gearbox and found clutch is fine so put engine back in on new mounts.
Gearbox back in, with a bit of huffing and puffing.
Brake lines on and connected.
New pedal shaft, bushes and clutch relay shaft.

Finally, offered up the new bulkhead at the end of the day and it fitted first time, much to our relief.
I've tried some 3mm on the bulkhead and was impressed how well it went one. Looking forward to see how well it works.

Wiring tomorrow Thumbs Up
