Planing a few autumn upgrades, including a DDD. Looking at a Kenwood with 7" Capacitive Screen, However Alpine have just brought out an 8" unit offering a screen size 43% bigger than the 7" units currently about
So I was wondering for those that have made the upgrade, can anyone tell me what the screen aperture measurement in the fascia is? The Alpine unit's screen measures 189.5mm x 120mm. I know some of the early DD fasicas were made to fit 6" screens, but have they got larger as Head Units have increased? Thanks in advance  Monsieur Le Grenadier

You could make it bigger if the trim piece can be secured and the mounting for the head unit would bring the screen forwards so it looks right.
My actual unit is bigger than the hole so it's screwed into brackets attached to the facia before the facia gets fitted to the dash. Thanks Roy, looks good. Think I'll by the Dash upgrade, measure the hole size and buy the largest/Best-fit DD.

No worries! Still fettling mine as the unit is quite deep and hits the air vent pipework at the back, so the facia doesn't sit flush.
Doing my head in, the amount of times I've had it out, heated and bent the pipe, put it back in, still doesn't fit

Hi Roy how did you resolve this ? - Ive just fitted a pioneer unit and for the life of me I cannot get the new double din dash back flush - is it the plastic pipe at the back thats fouling it ? Ive cut the clock down and checked double checked but cannot get it back flush ? Thanks

Someone told me that you need to use a hot air gun and gently melt the plastic pipe and reform it to accept the new DD system.

I have a similar problem, an have already re-moulded the air pipes and it still won't go flush. I think it might be some of the looms being too tight - did anyone extend any of theirs? Nick |

The fitment is a pain in the .....
Try to fit the system without any wires first. (And push all the remaing wires to the side) If that fits Just a wire at a time. And keep all the other wires to the side This way you know if you have a clearance issue Or itβs Just like allways that the wires are in the way.  a defender from 1984 pretending to be a puma with a touch of Range Rover |

Did you cut the bottom of the clock off?
Also I had a problem with the right side clip not engaging in its recess due to this side being weaker with the hole cut out for the extra switches. Took me nearly 8/9 months to figure his out. Tdi4 - that was plan for this weekend!
Roy - "cut the bottom of the clock", I haven't done, can you explain what needs to be done and why? I did notice the bottom of the clock fouled the H/U as I was putting it in, but once it had slid over the bracket in the dash it seemed to be ok. Nick |

Depends on your headunit I suppose. My pioneer sph da 120 has quite a large unit on it and the bottom of the clock would foul on the top of the unit and prevent the facia sitting right. I removed A toblerone shape bit of plastic from the rear bottom part of the clock. Clock still works and facia fits properly. 2011 Defender DCPU 2.2 - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic30623.html
