Does anybody have one of these aluminium rear ladders fitted? On the face of it, they look pretty good but I can't find any detail about how the top is fixed to the body. It doesn't appear to be bolted but then also doesn't look like it hooks over the gutter Confused

Fitting instructions for this:

"This sits inside the gutter on the back of your Defender 90 or 110, and secures to the two bolts on the rear cross member. You may need to drill through into the roof to secure the top of the ladder. "

and Britpart, to their credit, state:

"Note - Please check as DA3073 partially covers the number plate and may not comply with your country's MOT regulations."

Here’s my ladder, it sits in the gutter and also has 2 bolts through the rear roof panel and 2 bolts on the bottom. It does not obscure the number plate at about +- 30 degrees to each side. Don’t know the make but it may be a genuine LR one as the roof rack is.

Ironically, that's exactly the same ladder as I have on my 90:

I'd discounted it, partly because it bolts on and partly because the supports that press against the body are very close to the lights. I plan to fit NAS lights and that will interfere. Darren

I spotted this and my passenger took a pic for me as another method for the number plate to be seen more easily with a ladder to the rack. The red arrow is to show you were the number plate light is located, hope this helps Wink

With more and more ANPR cameras around I'm sure that MOT testers take even more notice of partially obstructed registration plates. An obscured plate will trigger an alert if the ANPR camera cannot read the number.

Cost for An obscured plate this can be £600 plant hire business i work of that using magnetic registration plates driver being stopped and fine (ANPR camera cannot read the number.)

Have now replaced my landrover ladder with a frontrunner one and jolly nice it is too! (had to have it bolted at the top as the pop top requires the roof gutter to be part of the raising roof )

Thumbs Up

I have a Britpart ladder fitted that covers the number plate as in the original post and I did drill the top mount and bolted it to the rear of the roof, must remember to remove it at MOT time........
