It’s great, especially if you drive on quiet French peage. It’s not as smooth as the system you get in modern cars, but it works well all the same. On mine, on some downhill gradients it can hunt a bit, like it doesn’t have enough sensitivity for very small throttle adjustments. It’s not a big problem, I usually just knock it off if it gets annoying and hit resume once back on the flat again. Really saves my ankle on level no trips.
I’ve no idea on cost to fit, I did it myself. Can’t imagine it’d be too dear as it won’t be difficult for an auto electrician. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS |

I have the one from Mobile Centre, it does what it says on the tin and I use it all the time.
It was pretty easy to fit, about an afternoon's work providing it's not as cold as it is at the moment! The negatives are that it doesn't work below about 20mph and that it's not good at very low power inputs. For example when you're going down a long hill that isn't quite steep enough for gravity to do all the work, it tends to come on and off power which makes everything jolt. Once you're aware of that limitation it works well. If you're going up a steep hill and it levels off, you'll often accelerate before it realises that you don't need so much power but that's not exactly surprising. Edit: Bluest posted whilst I was typing, it looks like we agree on its performance! |

Have a look here - https://www.conrad-anderson.co.uk/products...se-control
From what I can see from other sites, this one offers a number of options on the stalk control which gives more memory presets. |

I'm struggling to find out if any of the kits are fundamentally different or it's just basically the same kit available through different resellers?
Conrad Anderson state "We are the only company in the UK to import John Gold cruise control systems and can offer aftermarket cruise control kits which are suitable for use on almost any vehicle. The appropriate cruise control kit for your vehicle can be found in the list below. These are all TUV approved and extremely convenient to use, available with a steering column-mounted stalk with pre-set buttons." If it's the latter then there's more potential in looking at the OEM website and seeing there's extra choices such as Mounting at the center of the steering wheel with an wireless connection (RF) to the cruise control Click image to enlarge |

Seems to be an option over and above the standard control unit. I am also seriously thinking about having one fitted and this is the first I have seen with presets. I can see some benefit in roadworks (50mph) and so on. 2010 XS USW

^ Thing is a basic stalk could actually be easier,
in a 50 zone you just click 'on' when doing 50 and away you go otherwise you have to remember what memory you have what speed set at. It should be pretty easy with just a basic stalk? less fiddly maybe? That company charge £180 and say 3 hours to fit which I guess is ok? I'm going to ask a car auto electrician see what they may quote? Thanks |

I think two options have been included on the specific web page for the Defender, but other pages suggest that all of the types may be compatible with the base kit. The CM22 steering wheel mounted command module, pictured above, is there - priced at £94.99, whereas the GC5 is on at £99.00, so notionally a slightly cheaper option. So it looks like they have a choice of several stalks, a steering wheel option & a dash mounted option...something for everyone perhaps? |

Having had two rather scary and potentially fatal experiences with Land Rover fitted cruise control on a Mk1 Discovery I am to say the least wary of it, both incident happened on the same day and on both occasions it failed to come off when the brakes were applied. The second happening was witnessed by two Police officers in a marked patrol vehicle that was following me, when I explained after being breathalysed they prohibited the vehicle from being driven classing it as a dangerous vehicle. Land Rover were very good they recovered to the dealers , investigated the fault, repairing and arranging a suitable loan vehicle for six weeks . The dealers could not get it to disengage without pulling several fuses and Land Rover Tech's couldn't solve the problem so several new parts E.C.U., switch and a large amount of cabling were changed, they said it was sorted so I made them prove it on a airfield near York, it worked but I never trusted or used it again. Don't make old people mad.
We don't like being old in the first place, so it doesn't take much to us off. Richard |
