It must be close to the launch of the new Defender but there appears to be no sightings or leaks from the makers or part suppliers. Are we being mislead and there is no new Defender? Proud owner of 1962 IIA since 1971, Talyllyn Railway enthusiast.

If LR wanted to tie the launch to the first ever Land Rover then that'd be next year - 70 years going on strong...

The teasers being given out by the LR guys doing the factory tours is that the Defender replacement will be out at the latter end of 2018. Oh, and not built in the UK!

No one knows a thing.
"Not built in the U.K."?...Quite possible, but like everything else relative to the "new" Defender, there has been nothing of a confirmatory nature about that, from JLR , or about anything else for that matter. Pickles. |

Right now all I want is an updated picture of what it is going to look like... not much to ask.

Just look at how secret the Velar was before it launched, JLR seem good at keeping things under wraps at the moment!

It won't be a real Land Rover, it'll be a tarts handbag like their other offerings.

I know he could have been speaking complete nonsense but when I went on one of the Land Rover Reborn tours at Solihull, the tour guide told us than in order to meet the expected demand it would be built in both the UK and Slovakia as neither one had capacity for full production. https://instagram.com/bentheoandrews |

Possibly RHD models built in the UK and everything else built in Slovakia? It depends on what market they're actually going for, if it's going to be a utilitarian working vehicle, then it makes sense to build it where ever is cheapest.
The old Defender was basically a low volume car, something like 20'000 vehicles a year so no Solihul probably doesn't have the capacity to build large volumes of them. |

As per Farmer Bens post I got the same story from the Tour Guide, I doubt they would comment if they didn't know what was going to happen.

True, but did anyone really care about the Velar before it was launched?! |

Well I've seen nothing driving round Leamington in full camo remotely resembling a defender. Just lots of facelift Range rovers both full size and sport and now velar things. Oh and the new horrific discovery in camo still

With launch allegedly end of 2018, must either be using existing running gear and chassis, or perhaps so called disco 5 mules are covering more than a disco 5 underneath, as time is getting short for getting new models through all the EU and US testing Jumped ship to reliability - Mitsubishi L200
