Don't read anything into the details of the body. It's just a Range Rover one that's been hacked about to fit the chassis length and doesn't indicate anything about what the Defender will eventually look like. Darren

Interesting article in auto car this week. They say Land Rover is going to launch 4 new models in the next 4 years including a small suv Freelander. Smaller than the Freelander 1 in recognition there is a strong market for this type of suv and will balance the trend to be bigger and more luxury cars its producing. The mag also suggests this will allow the new defender to be more commercial and rugged. We'll see.... 2010 XS USW

Not sure if this has been mentioned anywhere on the forum but this particular article had slipped under the radar

If those truly are pictures of the new Defender and its shape then I for one will not be placing one on my drive it looks a hideous looking lump only suitable for those who will buy one and park it at the supermarket. Disappointing to say the least. For those who like Welsh Mountains and narrow boats have a look at my videos and photos at..

As I said at the top of this very page, don't read anything into the details of the body. It's just a Range Rover one that's been hacked about to fit the chassis length and doesn't indicate anything about what the Defender will eventually look like Rolling Eyes Darren

👆🏼 As the guys have said, it’s just the mechanicals that they’re testing by the looks. Have a read of the text and it explains it all.

I’ll be honest though from reading it, it looks like they’ll try and give it the same “face” as the RR, RRS, and current Disco. I personally think that the round headlight and separate sidelight and indicator really gives the Defender it’s identity.

I don’t trust that Gerry McGovern bloke at all.

"I don't trust that Gerry McGovern bloke at all"

Funny, I had typed the same thing (even looked up how to spell his name!) and then decided not to post it.

Whatever, I'm trying to remain hopelessly optimistic......

I think they''ll have the separate lights ... of a sort. I imagine it'll be a round headlight, but with separate round lights for side and indicator, all under a single outer lens cover unit.

Its obviously not going to please all. If you're expecting a perfect replica of an existing defender, you'll be disappointed. -------------------------------

I don’t think anyone is realistically wanting that but I know manufacturers like a corporate face to their vehicles and Land Rover is no different

.....I think!

I can’t see them using this type of front, or at least I hope not. Maybe something that leans towards the orginal design. I’m a bit of a traditionalist mind and if it was downxto me I’d have the lights in the middle! 😬

Yeah, but they are a consistent face of the range rover family.

The discovery and disco sport shortly I imagine will share light looks between themselves (although the big disco lights are ugly )

The defender will get its own take as its a separate family, I hope circular somehow. -------------------------------

Was talking to a chap this weekend and he works on the new Defender, I tended to believe him

Has a three digit designation currently within JLR, 336, 363, I cannot remember which
110 is sorted, they are having issues with the 90
Release date is scheduled for 2020, it which have the JLR body shape and share a chassis
As a Defender owner I wont like it, but it will sell by the bucketload

Complete rubbish or more rumour, no idea. Thought I would pass along

L663 has been around for quite a while as the in house reference for the new Defender. See;

www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/new-la...-commences

where this reference is used in the press, for instance. Don`t drive faster than your angel can fly!
