I was asked about the Bowler, so here comes the details
Chassis is made up of 2 front ends of Late Range rover Classics (radius arm and panhard rod set up on rear and higher ark in the front of a chassis than the rear for more axle travel and no "A" frame ) Chassis jigged at Drew Bowlers to 100' wb and fitted with his 2nd 100 frame ages ago (93) this is what was soon to be called a Tomcat the later Wildcat has the full spaceframe chassis. Front axle 110 heavy duty fitted with 4 pin diff mounted on Tomcat Motorsport coil springs with Fox 12" cooled shocks, Axle tubes cut and re welded to add caster angle for better steering. Back axle used to be the partner 110 heavy duty Sailsbury type mounted the same as above but was way to heavy, the unspung weight could not be controlled by the springs or shocks and made it undriveable at high speed off road, Rear axle now a Tomcat lightened one with a trutrack 4 pin diff Tomcat springs and Fox shocks. Engine TVR V8 4.0ltr running Omex engine management quite a plain 273bhp considering above rally car is throwing 230 out of a 1600 but mine is at 3,600 revs with torque to die for. Gearbox R380 5spd but fitted with a very short bellhouse out of a very old diesil 90 with an old style V8 converter ring, at this point you all are probably thinking that i have gone mad but hold on my engine is now behind the front axle mounted lower so all the weight is between the axles very stable. Fuel tank, water tank, radiator and spare wheel are all in the back, if you jack up my vehicle in the middle it balances. I wanted it to look like a S1 but the rest are all Tomcat Motorsport GRP panels riveted ect to the roll frame. I did not go down the road of trying to use the old chassis nos so this was registered new as a kit car and had to go through a full sva (and no it did not have those headlights fitted there for that) It has changed many times over the years as toys do Any more info required just ask If everything is under control you are not going fast enough. My baby was built in 98 by Dave Hyde of LLRC, its an 88in wheelbase Bowler Tomcat based on 2 front discovery 300tdi chassis with 110 disc brake front axle and 90 disc brake rear axle both with Ashcroft 4 pin diffs and Fox remote reservoir shocks.
The engine is a John Eales 4.2 V8 fed by 4no 1.75inch SU carbs on a boxer manifold (a sod to set up but great when they are on song), the engine is mounted back 18inches to help the centre of gravity. Power is fed to the wheels via a 3 speed jaguar borg warner auto with a roberts transfer box which allows over 70mph in low box. Fuel tank holds 10 gallons - enough for 15-25 miles in a race. At this point its tucked away in the back of my warehouse awaiting some TLC after bursting the steering box and ripping the output flange off the back of the transfer box on a prticularly fast landing. 2014 110 2.2TDCi XS Station wagon 1971 Bowler Tomcat 88 4.2 V8 Auto 2022 110 D250 XS Edition - Gone 2024 110 D250 X-Dynamic HSE |

Your collection is amazing Zagato, the job you've done on the 2A is amazing, looks straighter than when it left the factory. Do you cover many mile son the BSA?

Hi John, although I messed about on bikes when i was a teenager, I only took my test 5 years ago when I was forty (yeah you know it!) On passing I went straight out and bought a brand new Yamaha 1300cc XJR I had to sell it to keep me alive and pay for my wife's maternity leave. I picked the BSA up last year and it ran well but it now needs the magneto sorting out! Too many projects at the moment, I was going to finish off the Series 2 this year but I am still waiting for doors and was offered a perfect mooring in Chichester Harbour this year so sailing in the new boat is now on top of the list. No rush, I enjoy doing the rebuild when I get a bit of free time in the shed Glass of wine, classical music (Rach 2!) and painting up a few parts or rebuilding an electrical component is my idea of peaceful bliss. Zagato - where (roughly) are you in Surrey?
I lived in West Horsley (went to RGS Guildford) until I was 14 then moved to Cornwall. You seem to know this area and live where I used to as well! Some lovely toys here - that car is fantastic Zagato and if that really IS Ken's car collection then massive Not really toys but we have a garage full of heavy duty petrol garden tools - brushcutters, chainsaw, big mower, etc for my "hobby" of "extreme gardening." Live on 5 acres, about 4 of which are pretty wild and/or woodland. Spend a lot of time clearing, mowing, chopping, etc between Spring and Autumn and have turned it from nr wasteland to a fairly decent garden. Views are okay too (this is when is snowed recently): Click image to enlarge Defender 110XS SW gone... now VW California 180 4 Motion. |

Wow great place to live, what a view. I am in Reigate and parents had a holiday home in Trevone nr Padstow but last 20 years they have been in Mylor and Falmouth. We have thought about moving down a lot but will probably move to Chichester instead for the sailing but you never know Cornwall is the nicest place to be just less convenient for motor related hobbies. Sister has a bloody great big house right on the end of Mylor Creek as a holiday home. How the other half live - I'm not jealous She is a barrister married to a barrister and are both loaded -millions, but they are not into cars. Wow what I could get with their money
