Those flanges look a little think they are the PM770's? not the PM769's right?

There are two styles of drive flange used on the Defender. The thick style used up to about 1993, then onwards there is the thin style.
The PM669 is the HD version for the thick flanges the PM770 is the HD version for the thin flanges. You have a puma so will need the thin style flange QED the PM770 Hope this helps |

Why not use Ashcroft HD flanges, guaranteed to work with Ashcroft HD shafts?

As others have said, you need the thinner drive flanges. Mine (below) are Ashcroft but one of my mates has been running the Paddock ones with Ashcroft shafts for the last few years with no problems.

apologies for the n00b question: why would one fit these drive flanges as opposed to the LR ones? --

They're better made, stronger, and last longer.

According to Steve @ Crown Diffs, Ashcroft shafts will also accelerate the wear on standard LR drive flanges due to the difference in hardness between the drive flanges and the shafts.

Daft question, but as the flanges are thicker, could a few mm be turned off the outside to allow the circlips to fit?
(as the OP seems to be abroad and with postage etc may be more trouble than getting them spun down in a machine shop) |

I'm not sure you could as there is a rim/lip on them.

Tbh I would still use standard flanges, they end up being the point of failure as well as being cheap and easy to change.
Much better to break a £10 flange and change it in 10 mins or blow a diff instead... |

I think I've read on this forum that there can be difficulties with these heavy duty flanges etc when fitting them with Dual Finish/SVX alloys on a Puma in that the larger "fittings" will not fit under the standard Landrover centre wheel cap on these wheels?
