Recaro Seat - Disappointed
Just a quick post on my D/S Recaro which, after just over a year, has developed a fault.

Fitted in May of last year I have loved the seats from the day I popped them in, on short and long drives alike. Super comfortable and far better than my previous Corbeaus (IMHO). But at a grand a pop, by no means cheap.

So, whilst I have loved their comfort and felt they were 'worth every penny' it comes as disappointment that after just over a year's use the D/S seat's springs now make a noise. Not a squeak, more a grate and evident over every small bump, movement in the road, even on a bend (of which there are many here in the Alps!!). Did a four hour drive recently and it was irritating beyond belief.

As far as usage is concerned, the DC is my daily runner, averaging probably 1.5hrs use a day, all on well-maintained tarmac roads. Further, whilst I'm no featherweight, at between 83-85kgs I'm not that heavy either. And I am religious about keeping them clean and never kneel on them with my knee if leaning across the cabin etc.

I appreciate that Def ownership is all about little niggles and problems, certainly noises, but I'm not a little irked that my most expensive single upgrade, reputed to offer the best quality, has developed such a small, yet irritating, fault in just a year.

Has anyone else had the same problem (so quickly) and should I contact the supplier or are Recaro a bit like Giro (Helmets) and always want faulty items returned direct due to their high production standards?

Thoughts, experiences, advice, sarcastic comments (that I should have the OE seats...) welcomed! Thumbs Up Monsieur Le Grenadier

Bit of grease? Loose bolt?

My Corbeaus had a couple bolts work loose where they recline, made a similar annoying noise. Tightened em up and got rid of it

DS Recaro. That's something very different than the genuine SVX Recaro, no?
Sell them again, add another grand, or a bit more, a pop, and enjoy the real thing.
Mine stay quiet, even after 9 years.

You must mean a Recaro C/S then, the Recaro DS seems a completely different seat. The DS is older, looks more like a Scheelman seat. Try contacting Recaro and explain, see what they say.

The Seat is an SVX. But it's the Driver's Side (DS) seat. Sorry Eric, lost in translation. Whistle Monsieur Le Grenadier

We had a Focus RS Mk 11 (2.5L Turbo), which had recaro seats, which creaked in the backrest/hinge area after a while. It was some time ago, but from memory I think the Dealer greased the area, which fixed it.

I didnīt realise the Recaros had springs, but will take a closer look at mine.
Where is the noise coming from? Backrest or base?

Picking up on bankzīs suggestion, mine became noisy after about a year. It turned out to be loose bolts that fix the backrest to the recliner mechanism. Not Recaroīs fault, but when the seats were reassembled after painting the backrests, the bolts needed a little loctite. Check as well the bolts on the seat runners and from those to the seat box. There really arenīt many things on those seats that can make noises.

^^ Thanks WC90, it is hard to say where it's coming from, as it only happens whilst driving so under order from Mrs Grenadier I 'keep my eyes on the road'!! But I do think it might be somewhere between base and back, so the hinge as you and others have pointed out, might be it.... Thumbs Up Monsieur Le Grenadier
