2.4 Clutch Issues
I am having problems with the replacement clutch. The vehicle is a RHD 130 that I have recently bought. As a precaution (and I can see that some one else has removed the gearbox previously and not put it back correctly) I have changed the clutch. Before changing the clutch it was operating fine.

I put in a genuine clutch LR048731, genuine slave cylinder LR068979, genuine adapter LR068981, genuine valve LR068982, genuine damper STD500020 and a genuine master cylinder. Are these the correct combination of parts?

The master cylinder has been adjusted as per 140mm from the floor with no mat and little free play at the top.

I am having difficulties selecting gears - like the clutch is dragging or not disengaging. I have now tried a second new set of slave cylinder/adapter and its still the same. I also removed the gearbox again and inspected the clutch (still looked fine and same as one that came out) and replaced the pinion bearing - still dragging.

Have blead the clutch as per manual (put on clear tube into container of fluid, open nipple, depress pedal, close nipple, lift pedal) and have used an easy bleed pressure gadget. Pedal feels normal compared to my other Pumas.

Any ideas? My next plan is to remove the clutch and put another new one in and see. Unless anyone has another idea I can try. 1995 300tdi Defender 90 P/UP

France 2011 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 DCPU Corris Grey
Hello Nick,

I had the very same problem, will try and find the thread. After an almighty amount of f*$€ing about, and a lot of blame and counter blame, I bit the bullet, took the Def to a new garage, and had it re-stripped (third time of asking) and fitted with a brand new plate. The new garage's belief (they estimate they have done 1400 clutches and are Ashcroft's recommended fitters), was that at the first attempt the bell-housing had been re-fitted at a slight angle and bent the fingers on the clutch plate. The result (by the sounds of things) was exactly as you describe and we (the original mechanic and I) went through every attempt to make it work (Bleed, change both cylinders, even re-opening and re-fitting the same replacement clutch), but no improvement. Sounds like you may have suffered the same problem. BTW, something seems to linger in the back of my mind that 130s use a HD clutch. Is this what you re-fitted and not a stock 2.4? Someone out there will confirm...

Good luck Thumbs Up Monsieur Le Grenadier

I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list.....

Grenadier! Thanks for that. I did see the post you made and its also given me a little optimism that I will solve the problem! I am fitting the normal clutch and cover and not aware of the 130 having a HD version. The 130 300tdi does have a HD version. 1995 300tdi Defender 90 P/UP
