Update: so I have collected my 90 from the recovery company (that's £200 please mate). Damage is very little, only one section of the steering column cover and the ignition barrel.
The other half of the pedal lock was rather bent, but without a doubt the x-eng pedal lock gave a fantastic fight. Watching the CCTV again it is amazing they worked at the pedal lock for over a hour. My wife is really paranoid and has already had security chap over to improve our security of our property etc. Now we will know if anyone sets foot on our drive, even if we are in Australia! Police have already closed the case as they 'have no leads to follow up'. So some big lessons learned. CCTV only any good if you are alerted when they are activated. Layers of security buy time or encourage the scum bags to nick someone else's, but if they aren't disturbed they will spend the time to nick your Landy. Our local Landy specialist is fixing the damage and adding a couple of 'extras', but was of the view that they will be back as they know the 90 has a tracker. Neither my wife or I want to be constantly worrying about scums bags eyeing up our house/Landys - especially with our 2 young daughters. So I will be selling my 90 and 110 asap to remove the risk. It's not all bad news though. Our plan is to sell up in a couple of years and move to a property which is more secluded than our current location and we can build the garage out of sight. Then I will get myself another rebuild project, by which time hopefully the new defender will have been launched and the madness around our old favourites might have died down. In the meantime I will use LR experience etc to get my dose of muddy fun and then hand the keys back when they need cleaning and fixing  Fixing Land Rovers for over 25 years..........and making excuses to the wife for almost as long

Sad times
Unfortunately I don't believe its just because you have a defender. I also understand what your going through,a s a few years ago we were the victims of 'car key' theft while we asleep in the house. CCTV caught them, so I know there was 2 of them and armed. I have always been an advocate of leaving the keys downstairs and easy to find, and still am. They took the keys and car and disappeared. The tracker did the rest, and was recovered in 37m minutes ! The police still hadn't arrived at home, but I knew the car was recoverd. (they had even stopped for fuel  )
The police just don't have the resources, and viewed it as a result ............ Car recovered ,no injuries and we were insured 
It took me a couple of months to fully get over it, your head is scrambled and paranoid with all the what ifs !!! My only advice is take your time before you jump to any decisions. From experience living somewhere more secluded isn't necessarily a good thing ! Sign of the times, but there's always someone who wants what you've got and will choose the easy way ! If it was just me I wouldn't sell up.
Equally in 2002 I bought a brand new Golf and 6 weeks later my house was broken into for the keys and the Golf stolen. Back then it was just me who lived in the house and I a quite rational when it comes to these 'things'. Actually I was quite relieved they nicked the Golf, because at the time my Anniversary 90 was in the garage 
Now I live with 3 women there is no rationally allowed 
At the end of the day it's a hobby to me and one I can put on the back burner for now, plus I get to convert the garage to a proper man cave  Fixing Land Rovers for over 25 years..........and making excuses to the wife for almost as long

Hi Ade90 instead of selling your landys, could you put them in " storage " for a while ? P.S i do know what it is like living in a house full of women

Well I haven't given up fully just yet with convincing the wife we should keep at least one of the Landies.
Next few days will prove crucial. Funnily enough she did suggest putting them in storage. Oh and I think the thieves are actually beyond dim......they broke in through the passenger door by breaking the lock barrel. Obviously the string keeping the canvas down was too difficult to undo 
On the basis they are that dim I might just put a Jeep sticker on the Landies so they leave it alone  Fixing Land Rovers for over 25 years..........and making excuses to the wife for almost as long

Looking at how the X-Eng pedal lock was defeated, a simple modification could improve it in that area.
Although it's debatable whether any security device of that type could be expected to last more than an hour under attack, which this one did. I recall reading a test of steering wheel locks where five minutes was considered good. |

I read up on this, great stuff to here that you got it back, and the pedal lock gave them something to worry about for an hour,
they must have been really after it. Sounds though they have been eyeing up your property for them to be tooled up with balaclava's to hide away from the security cameras. Looks like a decent tracking system and layers of security just keep them busy. I wonder why they just left the vehicle at a local pub? Could have it been just to prove a point? or left for someone to collect it? Stolen Landies are often parked up nearby so they can wait and see if it has a tracker.
We are pretty sure that our property was being watched and as soon as we were away they grabbed the opportunity. Sadly my 90 is now sold (it is doing the school run in Kensington!) and my 110 locked in a shipping container whilst I get round the selling it as well. So I'm back in a Rangie......more comfortable, but doesn't give me the smile driving a `Landy does. Fixing Land Rovers for over 25 years..........and making excuses to the wife for almost as long

we suspect that our place is watched too, and are waiting for the option to have a go at one or the two.
Laugh was 2 years ago, they decided to have a go at my little rover metro rather than my dads landy at the time. Laugh was they couldn't get away and ran like  when they saw the cameras after they bent the door back and popped the lock.
Mind if they had that away, that car would have killed them with in minutes Wasn't exactly a 1.1  Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back
