Not much update,
I have new door tops to fit but too busy doing other jobs in the garden... I did manage to fit the painted wheel on the bonnet. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Then I took the Mrs out for a little drive to the farm shop for animal supplies her first Series Drive Click image to enlarge Then fitted a fire extinguisher and started cleaning the headlining... 40 odd years of grubby stuff meant the water looked very mucky after a few wipes. Click image to enlarge Then a while back I re did one of the 4 rear seats with a new perspex plastic base and re painted the bits. Looks smarter. Only 3 more to do Click image to enlarge I'm using it as my daily this week as the Puma is in for the front window sorting. |

I'm in it again today and getting more use to it, Using the overdrive in 3rd and 4th regularly
Compared to the Puma it's quite different, - much more bumpy ride over potholes / bumps, ok on the road - a lot slower but you wouldn't want it fast its suits pottering - steering is vague like in an American film when they are on a dead straight road and your moving the wheel up and down. - Brakes stop you eventually - I keep leaving the indicators on However it's great fun looking out over the newly fitted wheel, feel like I'm crossing the African bush not just driving through Cheshire.... It's great through the country lanes and I've already been main beamed and waved by other defender owners It's more than happy keeping up with traffic on my route which the fastest road is a 50mph zone, One thing though I had a garden arch in wood delivered flat pack yesterday, normally in the 110 no problem it just goes in... however I did struggle to get it in the back being a little 88" I do need to replace the door tops (which I have) as the tops rattle a lot and the glass in them so this will help. Funny thing is when I get the Puma back it feels so upmarket and refined, Almost car like Great Stuff |

So while the Puma is still in for the Paint jobs (I've also asked for a few more bits to be painted while its in) Ive been driving the series for the last week
Filled up with some oil this morning as factoring in its marking its territory everywhere it goes it must need some extra every now and again. Noticed the front passenger dumb iron will need replacing fairly soon as rust holes in it... so another job to the list However I've been busy in the week after work sanding down the rear x member and preparing it for a new coat of rust preventer then top coat... not sure what you use though. So these bits off... Click image to enlarge Looking quite bare.. Click image to enlarge Then two evenings from this Click image to enlarge to this.. Click image to enlarge |

OK so passenger side door top change...
WHAT A JOB.... The drivers side was straight forward but the passenger side oooh my. I never once swore though, just got bigger hammers and bars to lever the door top up and then had a real job getting the worn bolts out. Did it while tackling other jobs in the Garden so left it a while when it was wining and came back... Once off I sanded down, panel wiped, etch primed and then hand painted...
