Nope I think because Miffy has gone very black and blue the wheels need to be a different colour. I may have a line on a functioning winch... Mine is very very old and just not worth the cost of repair.
Yup, the wife likes them too... So definitely an option I think. The Wolfs have point blank been veto'd  In any colour
Now your Defender is a much lighter colour blue than Miffy (Oslo Blue) who from different directions looks inky black blue. The question is... DIY paint job... or Not?! not sure how robust alloy wheel rattle can would be.  |

Well not that far really. I regularly pick the wife up at Chester so a bit further. Any idea on cost of a refurb? I have no idea to be frank.

Answered my own question. £40 per wheel. Next day service £230 for four wheels.
Hmmm... About the same price as new boost wheels... Nope I am wrong... When on Earth did the cost of Alloy wheels go up so much £170 per boost alloy...
Now refurb looks like a great option... |

Sorted then. I have metal bits powder coated but never wheels. But a mate had his VW transporter done and he was happy. 1999 Defender TD5 110

Well, the wife is away this weekend
 Oh look... some time to do Miffy things... Where to begin...
The zircon pump has now been removed and the non-zircon idler pulley and smaller belt installed. Without that lump there is so much space to get to the centrifugal filter housing. Should have done this years ago. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge And folks, if you here what sounds like a mini turbo noise (but not the cool sort) that rises and falls with rpm then think dry idler bearing... Bad bearing, bad bad bearing... Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge To be honest it isn't that bad, just OK. So a clean and re-grease with see this one until I get a replacement. Then a trip out to a lurking forumite called Joe (good to meet you Joe) to pick up a used and in desperate need of a loving home Warm 9.5XP winch. This is the older version c.2009 and has seen life, but it is a Warn and unlike my no-name brand winch if it needs parts I will be able to get them. So, I took Miffy for a good drive to the shops, via somewhere nowhere near the shops With my chores down I began the refurb of this winch.
It was in a sorry sorry state when I picked it up, but I have seen much much worse. Click image to enlarge It took a little while to strip down due to a couple of captive nuts being fused in the winch uprights and I managed to shear one of the bolts in the upper brace bars... Balls... It is OK, I will either have to drill out the bolt or replace the braces with the ones from my other winch. But, after a few hours spent in the garden the motor and gearbox have been stripped cleaned greased and are ready to go back into service. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge All they are missing is a lick of paint. Oh and the main drum needs a good wire brush and paint to. After that it is just a case of fitting it with the wiring that is already in Miffy. Tell you what. I have dismantled a lot of different brands of winch, never a Warn. They are made exceptionally well. I can see why it is said others emulate Warn. The components are top notch. This particular winch, as I said, has had a decent life prior to me and I could see the wear in the motor, but the brushes still have 3/4s of their length left and the bearings were in good order. The gears in the gearbox had a little surface from sitting around for quite a while, but there was zero wear on the teeth or other components. Really impressed. Anyway, the real purpose behind going for the Warn even if it is a little "worn" (sorry couldn't resist) is that it has great parts support and the ability to upgrade the motor if and when that finally dies. Should I have gone for a bigger winch?! meh, yes and no. Miffy is a heavy beast but not beyond a 9500lb winch and there is always the marvellous world of multi-line pulls if required. But compared to my old 13000lb winch this Warn will be super quick to spool in. The 13000lb was go grab a coffee slow, but strong. til it died...
Oh and look how good Miffy looks in the "Enthusiast Drivers" section of the carpark  No mundane cars allowed...

Well. It has been quite the weekend spent stripping down a used and moderately abused Warn 9.5XP winch, above. Well it has now been painted and installed into Miffys winch bumper.

Just in time too as it is tipping it down. Click image to enlarge The only thing that is quite rough is the old winch line thimble and hook. Yuk...! This has done a lot of work in its life and has been sat out in every element. I am tempted to go "hookless"...
Click image to enlarge Instead relying on soft shackles and reducing the amount of metal in the kit. I like that idea, but I wonder if I will miss the heavy reliability of the steel... Don't know... The only irritating thing is that the Winchmax solenoid I bought last year appears to have died, or at least half of it has dies. I suspect moisture has seeped into the armature. It is supposed to be IP68 weather sealed. Quite annoyed. Might be just a case of opening it up and working the moving part with some light oil. These things really could better made. I would pay twice the price for a completely sealed unit. And to end this segment... Strafing run across the clean bonnet If I were a bird, I would probably find dark coloured vehicles and do the same thing....
