Hi all. About 6 years ago some gaffer tape was applied to various bits of plastic trim in the Jimny to supposedly protect it, yeah right, ok. Now the fabric has died leaving the glue welded on. What is going to shift it? Oh and wd40 doesn't touch it.
Any ideas? Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon. |

forgive me if you're familiar with the product but I don't mean hydraulic brake fluid - not at all the same thing as brake cleaner fluid. The hydraulic fluid will not just remove the adhesive residue but will strip off any paint surfaces too

If the brake cleaner idea does not work, just look on flesbay for adhesive remover.

Hair dryer it, get it really hot & sticky then use turps, meths, anything alcohol based...hair dryer is the key to success! Since 1973...S1, Air Portable's, Defender's, but only my Wolf TUL HS GS remains

Another good use for the hair dryer whilst you have it out - pop on a yellow fluorescent vest and point your hair dryer at the inconsiderate oncoming traffic speeding down your street - and amuse yourself at the drivers reaction

There's a product called Goof-Off around here, which is pretty much rebranded Acetone. Not sure if you want that around your paint work and plastics though.
Next step down in terms of attack is Desolve-It which is 'citrus based', and yeah, not sure what that means but it certainly has a bit more punch than isopropyl alcohol and methylated spirits. But yes, agree to above, heat works wonders! Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants... |

I use "sticky stuff remover". Not an April fool. Get it on eBay or Amazon. Doesn't damage most plastics and removes non hardened glue residues etc.

Fortunately it is on internal trim so no painted surfaces, will have a look at one or two of the heating with alcohol or other solvents. Thank you all. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

A product called TexSolve is what you need.
https://www.amazon.com/CleanTex-TexSolve-C...B0084G234S A wonderful product but it may not be easy to find in the UK. IIRC I used to get it from RS or similar. |

Hello lambert
Electrolube LRM Label Remover... sounds innocent enough, but this stuff will soften and remove most stubborn adhesives used on labels / tapes etc...using too strong a 'solvent' runs a risk of 'melting' the top surface of many of the typical plastics used in car interiors... (some are thermoset but many are thermoplastic and are vulnerable) Click image to enlarge +1 for TexSolve Good Luck SKIP https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic83242.html |
