DR - i was just trying to help. Sorry.

An interesting point I would note is that in your first link that ETC action is very harsh, I don't ever get that or notice it when in such a situation. Having a play a while back and putting my 110 into a crossaxle a small amount of throttle (rev raise to 1500ish RPM) and hearing the modulator work smooth forward progress was resumed without the apparent jerkiness I saw in your video. Even when going from trickling along to a good healthy rev to get things spinning and the ETC working I didn't get a defender sized version of buckaroo.

And while i'm here in that situation would it of been an idea to try the left foot brake technique against the antistall to preload and fool the diffs to transmitting drive equally? I find in rock crawl type situations very controlling to just inch along feathering the brake and clutch in unison to keep things slow and controlled.

1. thats how much acceleration it needed to get out of the situation it was in to get ETC to work efficiently. 1500rpm wouldnt achieve the transfer.

2. left foot brake in that situation no, but that technique is applied in video 2. Cheers

James you don't have to apologise you are helping because as a collective using all our knowledge we can paint a better picture. Smile

In my own research of ETC systems fitted to defender models your information on here has been most valuable, I'm fairly sure it was you who mentioned the system to be 'progressive' (ish- as we all know LR) so it will become more aggressive and you mentioned the caliper shearing incident. When experiencing ETC operation in my 110 it operates like this with a nice mild start before biting hard meaning I haven't been stuck yet. It just seems as an out of vehicle perspective your video shows no ETC followed by an apparent snatching action as it starts to work.
I don't know the age of the vehicle concerned but maybe it is the earlier system versus my later one? Failing that anyone have some local rock crawl style sections for experimentation and comparison?

As they say every day is a school day. Thumbs Up

mine has the latest Bosch system ETC on it (previous was Siemens) same system as fitted to run out.

It was trying before, video doesnt show it but you could hear it trying like mad. The vehicle is pretty well in there on that first clip.

that clip was the 6 or more incident similar to that.

one of the reasons i went to lockers after it, the shock loading is not ideal when your along way from anywhere! Cheers
