In the days of galvanised cappings this didn't happen
![]() If you do paint it, isn't it just going to rub through again? |

Always been a problem but as Defender9 said, it will only rub through again.
Personally I have left mine as it is, 16-years and there is still no corrosion as the canvas is always rubbing at the surface, if I was to convert back to a hardtop again then I would have to get it dealt with as the affected area would then be exposed. Had my cappings galvanised and they are now highly polished where the canvas rubs! ONE LIFE, GET IT! |

This has also (inevitably) happened on my 2007 DC, but curiously on mine the side cappings, but not the tailgate, appear to be galvanised. I don't know at what point in production LR stopped galvanising the cappings.
I did wonder at one time if vehicles which left the factory with canvas tilts had galv cappings, whilst those that left with open bucks did not. Mine left the factory with a tilt. It's a bit of a mystery really. |

I've removed my canvas hood with the intention of leaving it off. Shouldn't rub through again as it will seldom be refitted.
My side and tailgate cappings are (mostly) rust free, it's the cab gutter/rim that has suffered rust in my case. Two spots where the sticks pass the cab gutter. If anybody can advise on the high build primer query it would be most appreciated... Failing that I may send it to the body shop! |
