I thought that is how the oil service light came on on a puma. When the oil had a certain amount of diesel in it it needs changing. I think I read it somewhere and didn't dream it Ray

Thanks! No oil service light yet - albeit I am not sure I have such an indicator, it's a 07 2.4 TDCi -

That's indeed so for the 2.2 TDCi, but not for the 2.4. The 2.2 gets diesel contamination due to the DPF recycling, the 2.4 does not have that.... feature. Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation. http://youtu.be/yVRlSsJwD0o https://youtu.be/vmPr3oTHndg https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_GtzTT9Pdl0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ABqKPz28e6A https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLZ49Jce_n0 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XvAsz_ilQYU https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K8tMHiX9lSw https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=dxwjPuHIV7I https://vimeo.com/201482507 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSixqL0iyHw |

To be honest if it is a faint smell I wouldn't worry about it, but I would keep a close eye on the oil level. If it goes up, then investigation is called for.

I find it quite funny that such an oil service light exists
But it fits with the rest of the Defender. Injector seals might be it. Aren't they the same as the copper gaskets sealing the injector towards the fuel lines? I am having injector trouble anyway (cyl. 1+3 are knocking and are slightly out of tolerance), so everything will have to come out for four new injectors on Jan. 5th anyway... Have a good New Years Eve everyone! |

I think not. My service light simply corresponds with time and mileage. I click the service light away and leave oil as is. Light won't come up again before time or mileage are 'service-critical' once more. Hence quality is not the issue (in my case at least) |
