Our pup came from the Beechwoodoak kennel - Steve Talbot, who is the KC Assured Breeder scheme adviser for Springer Spaniels (or was at the time): https://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/search/br...22480084d9 Prices seem to have risen astronomically in the last 12 months - going rate for a pedigree pup was in the £600-800 range when we bought and I don't think it had changed much until early last year. Make sure the relevant breed-specific health checks are done and results available. Spaniels do not suffer as much from breed-specific issues but there are still a couple to be aware of. Might be an idea to hold on until all of the impulse-buy pups are ready for re-homing, although many re-homing kennels are reluctant to send a Springer to a home that has never had one before. Regarding exercise, we have found that it is nigh-on impossible to tire a Springer out - we've covered upwards of 30 Km in a day with him probably managing double that with his antics. That said, he has slowed down significantly after his 10th birthday. What really exhausts him though is engaging his brain via training or working. We would do a one hour training class and it absolutely wore him out for the rest of the day. I would also caution too many walks whilst bones and joints are developing in the first year - we did too much too soon in our enthusiasm and he ended up with some recurrent tendon and joint problems in the early years. The distance/time they can manage without damage is much less than you would think and the dog will just carry on no matter what. As you can see I am happy to blather on about my dog so if your brother would like to know any more details then message me and I will give you my contact details. |

Dog cuts leg badly on something unknown whilst out for a walk. Trip to vets, no perm damage and £300 later. Good to have ginger ninja home even if she does look a bit sorry for herself!
