Gidday all,
I'm noticing not so much noise, but the feel of backlash when coasting and backing on and off the accelerator (the sound of backlash greatly reduced when I did my halfshafts/CV recently). I know it could be the diff or props (which I will get to eventually) but it 'feels' gearboxish to me. Anyways, I'm looking at the Ashcroft MT82 Output shaft kit: http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/mt...t-kit.html Interested to hear your stories in installing one and how much it improved the feel (let alone improved a complete failure!). I've never gone into the gearbox or transfer, what don't I know ? Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants... Last edited by agentmulder on 16th Nov 2016 8:02am. Edited 1 time in total |

Hi all,
After the failure of my transfert box at 115000km I replaced it with a new Transfert box from ashcroft with sleeve casing and ATB inside, I altough replaced the clutch who was making some rattle because of a little spring going out, and finally I installed the ashcroft output shaft system. The old one was very dry probably installed without any grease. I will let you know about this setup, but what I can tell you is that it totaly supressed the horrible "Klong" noise when I was changing a gear. The only thing I can hear now is a little continuous noise of whistling, but I'm not sure if it comes from the transmission or maybe it's just my turbo that I didn't hear before that anymore. Best regards |

Hi Okan,
My gearbox went after 153.000 last weekend. Just looking at the options available. I saw Ascroft's what is meant by a sleeved casing (I saw that on the options list too)? Best regards |

Hi, You chaged CV-joints & half shafts?
In my 07 90 was the rear half shaft splines quite worn. Same with all drive shaft flange splines. I changed rear half shafts and all drive flanges. Also I installed the Ashcroft output shaft kit. Perhaps I should check the pinion back lash. I think the Puma clutch is more on/off than 300Tdi. Actually I like th 300Tdi 90 Defender much more than the Puma. Somehow there is more character in the 300Tdi. Brgds, Juha '96 300Tdi 90 '07 Puma 90 |
