People pulling out just assuming a Landy = slow
Is it just me or does this happen to other people.

Don't get me wrong I don't drive particularly quick in the defender... its happier plodding along and I use A roads most of the time. I generally always have my side lights on also as my car is black and in the country lanes I drive in often trees each side can mean it 'dark' even in the day.

The only thing I find bad when driving the Defender compared to any other car I have had is, your driving along in what ever zone it is 30, 40, 50 etc and a car pulling out into your path from a side road seems to see a Landy and think ooh that will be slow and just pulls out...???

This happens a Lot, is it just me?

To balance this though, I drive past a few Secondary schools on my way to work and a few times now (the latest last week) some teenage kids shouted 'nice car mate' as I drove past Thumbs Up

I've had this happen too. Also the number of times I'll over take a car on a dual carriageway and they immediately speed up to over take me as if to say I'm not being overtaken by a Land Rover!

The 170Hp tune catches people off guard as well, can be very entertaining! James

This happens to me constantly! It has happened several times within the last week. Rather than waiting that extra moment to actually observe the speed of the approaching vehicle I think people just think Land Rover = go, regardless of the situation. 2005 Td5 | 90 Station Wagon | Tonga Green

Yes, I have had both of those and also the car which overtakes, then slows up to the point that I need to brake. Happened tonight coming around the Norwich Southern bypass. I am doing a steady 70mph, car overtakes then slows. I pull out to overtake, car then accelerates. What's that all about?

I have also had cars overtaking on a dual carriageway, pulling up adjacent then gawping at the Defender. I don't really mind this Very Happy They can't help themselves.

Yes, really pees me off - especially annoying as I tend to be on cruise control on the motorway.

On the subject of annoying, how about all those tw@@ts who overtake you and cut in immediately without waiting to see your vehicle in their rear view beforehand!! I swear one of those idiots will clip my front offside corner sooner or later. Clearly they've go no idea that their side mirror makes your vehicle look much further away that you actually are - maybe we need manufacturers to etch those words on the mirror like they do stateside.

Same here too, always car drivers...l
Commercial drivers, vans trucks etc they don't.
They'll often give way too when the other lot won't. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

Ahhhh, invisible car syndrome, apparently it is a Land Rover related issue, I have the same with my Defender and my Discovery, both have DRL's as well!

As mk1 does I now anticipate the actions of drivers.

Honestly, I just think the general standard of driving has dropped.

I drive through central London quite often and am always on the M25 and it is shocking how some drivers use the roads, and I mean all types, Lorrys, vans, taxis (especially private hire) scooters and motorbikes at times it is quite disturbing.

This has got me started.....
Undertaking on motorways
Sudden lane changing (cutting in) no indication
Sudden deceleration/acceleration
Driving on tailgate
Lane hogging on empty motorways
Vehicles towing trailers in fast lane of motorway exceeding their speed limits
Articulated lorises just pulling out (most accidents I see on the M25 involve an articulated lorry and a car)
Cars joining motorways moving directly to the fast lane, they can't possibly have time to see what is in the lanes.
Cutting in on narrowing lanes at last minute.
Very little courtesies extended to fellow drivers, letting cars pull out or pull across.

Apologies on hijacking the thread Stacey, it just hi a nerve.

Any ways I feel a lot better nowI have all that off my chest, thanks Thumbs Up Cheers Simon

Yep, I think some people still think all Land Rovers are taxed as tractors.

Been happening to me for 25+ years.

Although in my experience a large front winch bumper often makes them think twice Laughing Fixing Land Rovers for over 25 years..........and making excuses to the wife for almost as long Smile

Imagine the fun to be had in the Jimny it being half the size of a defender it really is as if it has a cloaking system. Rhubarb and custard let fly with their secret weapon.

in Birmingham the rules are different it appears it is now OK to pull out and block 1/2 the road stopping normal traffic flows when turning right from a side road!!! particularly bad as you get closer to the city centre DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy

Down in Cornwall I get this all the time. Although cars do give way to me when going down the tight country roads.

What else annoys me is when I'm approaching a vehicle on the motorway and I pull out to overtake, they speed up to the same speed as me or faster, I pull back in and they slow down!! Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

I hear you all - especially relevant if you have a remap!

Passing lanes here in New Zealand... OK so a bunch of us are stuck behind a truck or whatever that we all want to get past 'first', yet despite the 80+ over there, the stereotype bad driver of your choice over there my defender is always '2nd on the list' of cars people want to get past before the lane runs out.

After overtaking the truck, I then pull over to let them through so as not to cause the 'pincer of death/merging traffic' situation, but then am stuck behind them, until the next passing lane that is, where I get to show them what I've got.

It's a merry little dance. Solved the bowel problem, working on the consonants...

TBH it's not just Defenders, it happens when driving other vehicles too. I get the impression from my son that when having lessons youngsters are being taught that due to high volumes of traffic on our roads one of the concerns is to keep traffic flowing. Whereas years ago we were taught to stop and wait until the road is clear and then ease out of a junction or roundabout etc, now they are taught to keep rolling and get away smartly and quickly as possible. Over time this has filtered down to others to grasp even the smallest chance of getting out into traffic - looking repeatedly in your rear view mirror to check if ou have caused inconvenience to others appears almost mandatory too Wink Steve.
Owned numerous Land Rover vehicles of all shapes and sizes over the decades.

The worse culprits are the 'bottom sniffers' that pull out into your path from a junction and block the road waiting for the traffic going the opposite way to yourself to let them in. I swear next time I am in the company car I may just stick a dent in their driver's door. If you go through life with your head in the sand....all people will see is an ar5e!!

Treat every day as if it is your last....one day you will be right!!
